Title:Left and Right
Rating:PG
Summary:Hermione and Ginny think about Dumbledore's funeral and what happened there.
Hermione felt just awful. Her mentor, the man who had helped her and her friends for years was dead. She felt like crying. She felt like screaming. She felt like going to the North Tower and cursing the sun. But she couldn't. She had to be strong and support Harry, who missed Dumbledore most of all.
Where was she when it happened? It was all in a blur. She was fighting, trying to remember all of spells she had learned in six years. Hermione was smart. Very smart, but for some reason all of her years of learning slipped out of her mind and onto the floor. She ducked Avada Kadevra spells left and right; a stunning spell went past her ear twice. And then she saw the green light; Snape running off with Malfoy and other Death Eaters cheering and laughing.
Hermione shook her head and looked at her friend, Ginny Weasley across the common room. She smiled slightly trying to encourage her, but it failed. How could she encourage someone even when she couldn't do it to herself? She turned back to her book, Hogwarts: A History. Hermione had read is countless times, but reading or studying always calmed her down unless is for exams. Apparation. It had always popped up in her adventures with Harry and Ron. She smiled at the memory, but was sad again.
This time she was sad for Ginny. Her only friend who was girl had finally found someone, and Hermione was ecstatic for her and Harry. Hermione's head slumped further towards the desk on her hands, and eventually she let her left hand fall down to cushion her head. They would be leaving soon, and she needed a nap.
Ginny watched Hermione's head fall onto the table. Never once had she heard of Hermione sleeping in the daytime or in any class. She curled up more under her quilt she had brought from home. Home made her think of her mother. Molly was so upset to find that her daughter once again was fighting against Death Eaters. She grinned, thinking that she was giving Fred and George a break. This made her think of Ron's old broken wand and then of Harry.
She had found a perfect person, but she couldn't be with him. Sure, Harry was protecting her, but Ginny couldn't take it. She got up and dragged her blanket behind her into the girl's dormitories, plopped herself on the bed, closed the curtains, and put the quilt over her head and hid. It smelt like her room and the good cooking her mother makes.
Harry was just being too noble, she decided. He had a problem of going headfirst into things and he was always trying to save everyone. "You just can't do it all the time, "she thought. "No one can do it. He's trying to be like his father I suppose. All great and wonderful. Or maybe like his mother who killed herself for him. An all noble family. But why can't I have him too? It's not right!"
