Fortune Cookies
Title: Fortune Cookies
Rating: PG
Pairing: Wilson/Cuddy
Summary: We learn that bad cooking and love actually go together.
Note: Written for the 12_stories prompt 'Thanksgiving'.
The turkey was burnt and chewy. The sweet potatoes were mushy. And even the pumpkin pie tasted bad. Wilson was amazed at Cuddy's cooking skills in the worst of ways.
Cuddy sat, staring at the meal before her and Wilson, and said, “Want to throw it all away and order Chinese?”
Wilson stopped picking at his pie and said, “Yeah!” all too enthusiastically.
“Great. If you can just grab the turkey and throw it in the bin outside, I'll scrape the rest of this in the garbage.”
“Don't you want to save the wishbone?”
“The wishbone is burnt. It'll crumble as soon as we touch it.” Cuddy picked up the pie and all but threw it in the garbage. She then took the sweet potatoes and did the same. Wilson sighed and picked up the turkey and went outside with it. He found the bin, tossed the turkey away, and went inside. As soon as he was in, Cuddy handed him the cranberry sauce.
“I even ruined this.”
“How? Didn't it come in a can?” Wilson tried to move the sauce with a fork, but it wouldn't budge.
“I don't know how I messed it up, but it's glued on there.”
He opened the trash compactor and banged the dish on the side. The sauce finally came off. He smiled at Cuddy, but she didn't notice. She was looking at a menu.
“I've eaten at The Green Dragon before,” she said. “Their chicken is good, and chicken's like a turkey, so we can have that.”
“Does it come with noodles?”
“No, but we can order some.” She picked up the phone and ordered for them. “It'll be here in twenty.”
“Great. What do you want to do until then?” Wilson eyed the T.V.
Cuddy smiled. “We can watch A Wonderful Life. It's on tonight.” She turned on the T.V. and flipped over to the movie.
”Isn't this a Christmas movie? Shouldn't it be on in December?” Cuddy asked as they sat down.
“I don't know. I don't quite understand the Christmas subculture.” Wilson put an arm around Cuddy and she scooted closer to him.
“Me neither,” she said.
They sat there in silence watching the movie. Wilson put his arm around Cuddy and she scooted close to him.
Wilson jumped up when the doorbell rang with their Chinese. Cuddy helped him lay it all out on the coffee table and Wilson found the fortune cookies.
“These can be our wishbone.”
“I guess,” Cuddy said. She took hers from Wilson and opened it. “You will find true love on this day. Your lucky numbers are: 1, 37, 45, and 8. What does yours say?”
Wilson opened his. “You will find true love on this day.” He looked up with a laugh. “Your lucky numbers are: 1, 37, 45, and 8. We got the same ones! That's cheap of them.”
“Yeah, but I kind of like it.” She smiled and he smiled in return.
