SO. Everyone has been asking questions about the logistics of the aftermath over the next few days, and while we think that there should, of course, be some level of confusion in these things (because there's a lot going on and a lot to do and basically... everything is crazy). But we're going to make a post with a run-down of everything that you should need to know.
HOGWARTS
Basically, as of Saturday, Hogwarts is a mess. It's missing a wall, there's rubble, there's bodies, and it's been reduced to a battle ground. Therefore, no one, no one who was not at the battle should be going to Hogwarts, for any reason. The Ministry (headed by the Aurors and Hitwizards) is organising the clean-up efforts, and at this point, no one who is untrained in these matters is going to be involved with that. Around noon on Saturday, the Aurors and Order will be getting everyone who's still hanging around the castle to leave, whether it be for home or St Mungo's. No exceptions. They will be opening up a Floo portal in McGonagall's office, so people can leave from there, or they can walk down to the village of Hogsmeade and Disapparate. The village of Hogsmeade itself is bound to be busy with Healers, Mediwizards, Ministry officials, and people who are just staying in the village to be close to the action, so it would be difficult to get a room there. Basically, by tomorrow afternoon, your characters should either be at home or in St Mungo's.
ST MUNGO'S
The huge influx of injuries has, of course, made St Mungo's bedlam as well, and the Healers there have pretty much forgotten floor/ward distinctions and everyone is clumped together. People who are in need of only minor care will be turned out as quickly as possible.
THE DEAD
Word of who's dead will likely get out by word of mouth immediately. However, what is actually done with the bodies is another concern. Initially, all of the dead will be brought to the Great Hall, and then moved to the Ministry by Saturday evening. Their bodies will be stored in the Department of Mysteries until a family member comes to identify them and claim their body. Because of the huge number of casualties (and the fact that they have a fuckload of other things to do), the Ministry will not be conducting autopsies, and if the family wishes to have an autopsy done, it must be paid for privately and not done by the Ministry.
MUGGLEBORNS
Saturday afternoon, a team of Aurors led by Gawain Robards will be releasing the imprisoned Muggleborns from Azkaban and all of them will be taken to St Mungo's and kept in the Creature Induced Injuries Ward on the first floor. Depending on how long they have been in Azkaban, they will release Muggleborns when they are deemed physically able. By Sunday morning, the Wizengamot will be pushing through emergency legislation that abolishes the Muggleborn Registration Commission so that all Muggleborns who were on the run can come out of hiding.
As for those who died in Azkaban, the Ministry will be working on slogging through old records and interviewing survivors to determine who died, when, and where they were buried. If your character has a Muggleborn parent, it is completely up to you whether they survived Azkaban/being on the run, though if you can't decide and would like us to flip a coin for you, we can.
DEATH EATERS
The Death Eaters who weren't able to ~sneak off~ during the end of the battle will be in Azkaban as of Saturday morning, which is no longer guarded by Dementors but by the trained officials who guarded the prison when the Dementors went AWOL last summer. Those who managed to escape are on the run, and there will be a list of Death Eaters at large coming out on Sunday morning, to be printed in the Prophet. If you NPCed a Death Eater here for the final battle and would like to play them on the run at Redemption, let us know, because they will make the list (as well as any Death Eaters who died and bodies weren't recovered *cough*Goyle Sr*cough*). The Malfoy family was not taken to Azkaban because of Harry's word, but was virtually placed under house arrest and is awaiting trial.
BELONGINGS
This is kind of low on the Ministry's priority list, but students' belongings will be moved out of Hogwarts starting on Saturday, at a rather slow rate, but all of them should be cleared out by Wednesday. Everything is being taken to the Ministry of Magic and stored in level seven, at the Department of Magical Games and Sports (they're not doing much right now). It's up to your character to go there and claim their belongings, which may be a long and arduous task. If belongings aren't claimed by the end of the month, they will be donated to charity to assist Muggleborns and underprivileged Hogwarts students.
