Bash told himself he was only going to check on Mary, to make sure she was alright and to help search for Lola. Nothing more. He wasn't going because he missed Mary and longed to see her again. Because that would be an admission of how much he loved her and he couldn't let her know that. He had to hide it. Even if he was sure she had to know. And if she did know she was taking advantage of that fact to get him to come see her. And yet he still went.

He reached the door and saw that it was open so he knocked and pushed it open fully to see Mary.... and Francis. She had told him she was asking him. "I see my presence is no longer required," he said, turning to leave.
