From being pulled to the flashy town of Vegas from Sleepy Hollow was a lot to take in. Abbie needed to get back home, her sister was alone there now, something she didn't like since they had made up, actually working together for once, thanks to Crane. She knew she needed to find a way home. Especially with Death running a mock there and the end of the world was coming, but she knew she couldn't press Crane to help her figure this out since his wife was here and she didn't want to take the from her friend.

Abbie decided she should go for a walk, just to see where they were, she had never been to Vegas before. Perhaps she'll see if anyone else was looking for a way out, but mainly just to get some air, even if Vegas streets were alive and had people all around, she kind of felt like she was the only one there, alone.

The lights were bright on the strip, people were walking in and out of different places, Abbie pulled her jacket more around her, kept walking, looking, thinking. Perhaps her sister would appear, maybe the end of the world wasn't happening here? Or it was and now she couldn't stop it, Abbie didn't want that.

"Of course," Severus replied to her thanks, though he belatedly tacked on a, "You're welcome," as that was the custom here in the States.

Perhaps he was simply more pessimistic, but he would have said that nothing added up in this place. Still, he spared her that and instead moved on to corroborate what she already knew to be true.

"In the same vein, at least one of my former students witnessed my death," he added, with a helpless little shrug. "But here I am -- safe and sound."

For the moment, at least. None of them could guarantee that they remained safe, and that troubled him a bit more than what might have been going on at home. Considering that if he were sent home he would immediately die, however, he didn't feel too terribly guilty for that. This, here, was all he had, now.

"Isn't odd how all these people are coming together in a vague space of what time?" Abbie just couldn't figure this out. "I need to talk to Crane, I bet of there are answers, he's already found them since he's been here awhile." She was talking to herself mainly, but this was just too much, even for her, and she had just captured death not even two days ago.

She put her hands in her pockets, walking with him, just remaining silent for the moment, she wasn't even sure what to say next. There was nothing he could say that would help her figure this out, seemed like a lost hope, at least for the moment.

"Ichabod Crane?" Severus asked, eyebrows rising. "If I may, I think that he may have his hands full with just figuring out the modern conveniences. We were discussing washing machines a while back, and the concept seemed completely foreign to him."

Not that he doubted the man's intelligence, of course. He was clearly far above average. Eloquent, erudite, and quite poetic, even. But if this place seemed so far beyond the comprehension of those for whom a washing machine was not a novel invention, he was probably a bit out of his depth.

Abbie smiled at that, "yeah, he's...marveled by how human have became lazy," she replied with a shrug of his shoulders. Crane had a point, but it's what she was use to living with and some things she'd never give up. "He picked up on the phone and kind of the computer." She just shook her head at the pair kept walking.

Thinking it was best, she lapsed into silence for a moment, just strolling with the man, but Abbie couldn't be silent for too long. "Wizard school, I've never even thought it would be possible." She wonder perhaps that's were Crane son went.

Severus couldn't say he was exactly surprised that Crane had been coping so well, given the way he generally spoke, and the knowledge that he, too, had been a teacher. Still, a modern cop and an 18th century schoolmaster were hardly a normal combination. "How do you know him, if you don't mind my asking?"

He gave a slight shrug when she said she'd never thought a wizarding school was possible, because ... well, he'd heard that very thing countless times before. Usually in Welsh, however, when he'd gone to explain about Hogwarts to the Welsh-speaking parents of a Muggle-born.

"There's one here in the States, as well," he answered, turning his head briefly to give her a small smile. "Well, not here, in this state, even if we're actually in Nevada, though I doubt we are. But in Massachusetts, rather. The Salem Witches' Institute."

"He as partner back home," she told with him with a kind smile and left it at that since they had been working together for month now.

She didn't look shocked by the name, just nodded her head "seems fitting," with the trails and such being there." She shook her head, this was just crazy,but honest.

As they kept walking, "How come the schools aren't known? How does it find students?"

Her partner? Now that was odd, and his rising eyebrows indicated that he thought as much as well, he was sure. Still, given that he himself was also a spy in addition to being a teacher ... well, perhaps it wasn't all that odd, after all.

"Well, the Salem Witch Trials and their European counterparts are actually part of the reason why the schools aren't known," Severus answered, frowning just a little. "Wizards enacted secrecy statutes not long after, to keep magic hidden in order protect ourselves. I'm not certain how it works at the Salem Institute, you understand, but Hogwarts has a book that records each magical birth in Britain as it happens.

"Then, when the children are old enough to start their first year at the school, it generates a list of magical children born to non-magical parents. The school staff will then go and speak to the parents, tell them about the school and where to buy the child's supplies, and ... issue to official invitation for them to attend the following autumn term." He shrugged a little at the end, there, because it was probably going to sound terribly odd to her, but it was the truth -- strange or not.

She listened as they walked along, wrapped up in what he was saying, how did they know the births were happening? But she figured if she asked too much he would think she was prying and she wanted to, but knew better of it.

"Very interesting," she said when he was finished, "extremely." All she knew was about covens that had witches, but that was about it really and she learned that from dealing with Death. They had finally reached the hotel and she smiled.

"I think I'm going to keep walking, thank you for letting me walk back with you and answering my questions. It's a pleasure to meet you and I hope we can talk again soon," she smiled at the older man.

"Of course," Severus answered, when Ms. Mills expressed her interest to keep walking. Oddly enough, it didn't feel like a dismissal at all. Or at least not of the sort he was accustomed to, at any rate. "I shall look forward to it," he added, with a smile, and he meant it, too.

Whether that was owing to the fact that he didn't normally have someone to talk to (and even now he was a bit boggled by how this seemed to be a need he'd have to address), or because of her intelligent conversation and curiosity, he wasn't entirely sure. In the end, however, he decided that it really didn't matter, and he raised a hand in some semblance of a wave, before bidding her a good night and heading indoors.
