She wasn’t completely embarrassed by her confession but she did cover her face with her hands for a moment. “Like you wouldn’t sneak a peak at a hot girl if you were invisible! Both of the others would be pretty cool. My vote’s for shape shifting. You could turn into anything. Like a box.” Hm, not interesting. “Or a dolphin!” Much better!
She hadn’t heard of it, even with all her adventurous eating. “We’ll have to find a place that does it then.” Again there was that matter of fact decision making. Nevermind that she hadn’t the slightest clue where to start, or that Paul might want to eat his chicken keleguen in silence or with someone else. He said he hadn’t eaten his favorite food in a long while. That needed to be fixed. “You can probably do it. It’s just my mom’s ribs. They’re sooo good. They’re pretty much the only reason I haven’t gone vegetarian. That and burgers.” Now she was getting hungry. “I can give you the recipe if you like? I have it at home but I hate trying to make it myself. It takes forever and I never get it right in the end. You have to marinate it for like seventeen years and whisper magic words while you lather it in secret sauce or something.” Cassie could do many things, but cooking was a strange science that she was convinced she’d never really understand.
“Happiest memory umm… That trip to Hawaii that I mentioned? It was just my high school boyfriend and I running around by ourselves for a few weeks. Rolling out of bed late, and going swimming at sunset, dancing all night. I guess it’s not really a story,” she laughed again, the self consciousness returning. “But it was back when everything was so simple, you know? Like you’re right out of high school and everything is possible and responsibilities are sort of away. There, back at home. Able to be dealt with later. And you really don’t need… you don’t need things, you know? We had money for when we needed it but we were just enjoying what nature had to offer. We barely stayed at the hostel. We packed light. We’d go hiking or swimming instead of shopping. If we could we’d just fish for our food. We’d sometimes sleep outside. It was… wasn’t glamorous, but it was super simple. I liked it.” She gave him a soft shrug, shook her head softly at the memories, and glanced back at him. “Now, same question and…” All this talk of diving and swimming and traveling had her glancing wistfully back at the water. “Do you wanna keep walking or feel up for a dip?” She was really liking this talk of theirs but she wasn’t ever one to resist jumping into water.
