"Don't worry about it," James replied quickly with a slight wave of his hand as if to brush the very idea away. "I was just watching crappy tv. You can stop by any time you'd like and I mean that."
He smiled at Lucy, a true grin without any hidden intentions or tricks he had used on women in the past. He was just happy to see her, happy she was sitting on his couch in his apartment, and more than glad that she stopped by to visit.
Leaning forward he patted his knees and glanced to his kitchen. "I have some chips and stuff if you'd like me to get you something. I also have some drinks. You want anything? Come into the kitchen, I'll get you something to eat, it's the least I could do after you helped me figure out that bouquet for my sister and surprised me with a visit. That's like a gift in itself."
He grinned but the back of his mind seemed to awaken. A gift in itself? Since when had he been attracted, truly attracted, to any woman? Since when had he been truly cheerful and nice to someone other than his sister? James brushed the confusion away and got to his feet, offering a hand to Lucy to help her up.
