Karin took the beer without looking, unconcerned as to its contents. The tension in the room was nearly palpable. A little drink to ease the burden it created would hardly hurt any of them, of that she was certain.
"Fee."
She turned back to Sean, shaking her head in a wordless apology. Silently she chastised herself for having ever expected better. The way things had gone between the two of them it would have been foolish for her to anticipate an easy road here. Sean remained a sore spot, but that was a first impression Karin sincerely hoped he might amend upon this - and hopefully further - visits.
"I can't tell you a lot without a more thorough exam," she said. "You may need some blood work. For now I've got some painkillers you can have. Not too much, and nothing addictive, but you know." She shrugged, her beer sloshing against its walls as she did. "It'll help you get through the night, at least. I know a couple of hospitals that won't turn you away if you don't have insurance, okay? We'll get you sorted out."
