Karin had looked over the text, but not answered; in the time it would take her to respond he would likely already be there, she reasoned. As it turned out, she was correct. The knock sounded weaker than she might have expected, but she heard it all the same.
"Any minute now, sounds like," she said, a thin smile curving her lips. She rose from the couch, unfolding her legs from beneath her. Pins and needles pricked the sole of her feet as she made her way to the door, glancing nervously through the peephole. She saw him, and immediately knew that something was most assuredly not right.
"Come in," she said, glancing from Sean to her sister, schooling her anxiety away. "Sean, this is my sister, Fee. Fee, Sean." Her eyes narrowed as she looked at him, seeing what appeared to be the signs of an asthma attack. Troubled by his labored breathing, she led him gently inside. Immediately she wondered if he shouldn't have simply gone directly to the emergency room.
