Samuel took the proffered hand, giving it a firm, quick shake, at last meeting Richard's gaze; unfortunately this merely redirected Samuel's appraisal of him, rather than alleviating it. With his free hand he pressed the button for his new neighbor's floor. The elevator clambered into motion with a creak Samuel found decidedly troubling. He glanced up toward the ceiling, arching a brow at the racket coming from the mechanism above.
"Another Midwestern boy," Samuel mused, grinning at the thought of his friend Rylee. "Not a bad start. So how are you liking this total lack of winter?"
