Rylee observed Charlie's reaction and gave a faint frown before turning his attention to Cat. It was always give and take between the friends; when Rylee was too nervous, Charlie helped calm him and when Charlie was on edge, Rylee stepped up. It was one of the few times that Rylee was able to find his confidence with ease.
Under the table, Rylee slipped his hand over to Charlie's knee and gave it a reassuring pat. He'd try to steer the conversation away from her. As confident as Charlie was, she was as much of a mess with talking about herself, and her personal work history was definitely not something she shared willingly.
"Funny coincidence, huh?" Rylee said with a smile. "We had sort of lost touch before we found each other here. It was weird, I was moving stuff in and ran into Charlie right by the mail boxes. Definitely the last person I thought I would see here but it was worth the surprise."
He gave Charlie another squeeze on her knee before withdrawing and reaching for his glass of wine. He wasn't a huge wine drinker, or any drinker for that matter unless Charlie or Samuel were influencing him, but the wine was smooth and flavorful. After a sip, he finished the food on his plate, giving room for more conversation.
