He could feel the chocolate starting to be sticky in his palm, and Max quickly tossed the little pieces of candy into his mouth.
"Oh, no, uh, hah, it's...kind of a long story," he started, a little surprised at being asked about his nocturnal wanderings. He'd been used to it for so long that it had simply become part of his life and potentially part of what he used to define himself. Insomniac didn't quite cover it, for when the sun rose he was out like a light. Night owl, maybe, but even that wasn't a perfect definition. "I, uh, just tend to be more awake at night. Kinda weird, I know." He finished the candy and swallowed.
"And my sister and I are pretty close - I mean, almost lived together most of our lives," he continued, glad to have found a point in common with Dominic. There was no need to add the circumstances for the relationship the siblings shared, for Max was certain that, even if their mother had not died, that Lily would have been as sometimes overbearing and mothering regardless of any parental figures in their lives.
"A writer, though, that's pretty cool. What kind of articles? Restaurants?" The question was spoken with fake interest, mainly just to learn more about this new acquaintance.
