James stopped chewing his fries, his mouth pausing and crumbs lingering about his lips. He grabbed a napkin, wiping his lips clean quickly before dropping it onto the table, all the while his eyes didn't move from taking in his sisters expression.
His hands formed into fists again, his eyes snapping to Adam as he gave a soul crushing glare. Whatever had just happened, Alex was hurt, and he was sure it wasn't because he had punched Adam in the face. At that moment he would be more than happy to try and punch him again if only to save his sister from having that look of disappointment.
Maybe they weren't in a relationship, Alex would have been honest with him if they had been, but this reaction... it dawned on James that maybe Alex wanted a relationship. She had always been so close to Adam and Adam's opinion of Alex had never been something James was oblivious about.
"Sit down, Alex, eat your hamburger before it gets cold," James replied. His voice was completely altered from the tone he used towards Adam. It was a near coo, something comforting and surely used for Alex and no one else. Still, his eyes were on Adam with an unspoken threat. "The fries are just the right amount of crunchy too."
