Alexandria blushed hard, then squinted at her brother, though she couldn't help the smile that came to her lips. "Listen, I tried. Very hard. I'm a woman of few talents, and cooking doesn't seem to be one of them."
With sheepish grin, she looked back to Adam, taking the bottle of wine.
"Thank you, Adam." Her first impulse was to give him a kiss on the cheek, but she resisted, her blush returning. It felt strange to show that kind of closeness in front of Jamie. It seemed like it would invite questions that she didn't really know the answers to, and she didn't want her big brother's ribbing or overprotectiveness to scare Adam away.
She shook it off, deciding instead that banter would be a safer bet.
"See, Jamie? This is how to be a gracious guest. Besides, you love In N' Out."
She wished she could squeeze Adam's hand, but instead, she gestured toward the table.
"C'mon, boys. I'll pour the wine; let's eat before it gets cold."
