It was a comfort of a sort, reassuring her that for now, at least, she was in the right hands. Still, after a time she found him an uncertain guidepoint, as he had said; she looked over his shoulder, gazing at the city's skyline at his back. She felt her fears ebb away, slow and steady as the tide, leaving only a new, intensely desirable tiredness in its wake. She breathed deeply, tasting the fresh air on her tongue as she did, the warm wind blowing away from them all the sounds and smells of the crowded city beyond.
