Lucy checked her hair and her hat once more. She tried to be subtle about it, but that was more out of habit than anything else. Alex would notice it no matter what she did.

"We will. Maybe you can go to the beach with me next time! That could be fun! Have fun at school. I mean, if you really can have fun at school, that is."

With that, she headed out the door and headed on her way, her step a little lighter than it should have been after being trapped in an elevator. Carrying secrets around was a heavier burden than one ever imagined.
