Nothing Short of Hilarious
Who: Kit & Lucy
What: A welcome gift
Where: D3
When: Friday, August 5th, around 7pm
Warnings: TBA - but probably low

Kit was settling in nicely at his job, ever-so polite and kind, always on time to the job, and never late with a project. He was a model worker, and while his computer was scrutinised far more than anyone else in the office was being evaluated, Kit found he didn't mind the work. It wasn't anything like Military work, and he had more freedoms with what he was allowed to do to the software. His cubicle neighbors paid him no mind, and he paid them none either.

Nevertheless, Fridays were always a relief for him, and this particular Friday was no different. He had the short commute home, but he was looking forward to sitting behind his computer and 'working' all weekend. Dinner was a light bowl of pasta - early, at 5pm, so he didn't have to be interrupted later. He'd only been at it for a few hours when there was a knocking on his door.

Annoyed at the disturbance, Kit figured he'd ignore it until it went away.

It didn't go away.

Resigned, he clicked away from his fun and frowned as he peered out the peephole. "Hello?" he said, opening the door to a woman that made his palms go instantly sweaty. He'd had a nightmare just the other night that started like this ...

Lucy smiled brightly at Kit and waved. "Hi! Remember me?" She hoped he did, otherwise this would be really awkward. Without a word, she thrust the potted plant she was carrying towards him. The pot was wrapped in bright pink ribbon, and the ribbon was tied in a perky bow.

"This is for you!"

Her day with Luc had left her feeling like she needed to share the happiness she felt with someone else. Since pot was responsible for bringing her to this point, it was obvious that pot needed to be shared, so she brought him one of her plants. That way, he would always have access to happiness. Provided he took care of his plant, of course.

Kit had been the obvious choice for her quest to bring happiness. He didn't understand baseball and that was totally sad for him. Clearly he needed this more than others in the building. She imagined he was going to feel so thankful for her wanting to give him a dose of happiness.

"You're welcome." He hadn't thanked her yet, but she was pretty sure he had to be thinking it.

Yup. Definitely a nightmare. A nightmare that included a crazy woman thinking that he a) knew her, b) would want her plant and c) would thank her for it. Still, she seemed so utterly pleased, that Kit felt obligated to give it a bit of a try.

So. Who did he know who was absolutely insane? "Come on in," he said, looking down at his pink-wrapped plant. "You can uh, help me find a home for this." And then he was getting straight back to work. But. Back to the crazy, who would even think to bring him a - "Lucy." He smiled, pleased he'd manage to remember. "Lucy, why uh, why do you think I can keep a plant alive? I'm not even sure I could keep a fish alive. And what is it?"

He didn't go out much. That was his defense.

Lucy smiled brightly at him when he said her name. He remembered her! She entered his apartment at his invitation and took a look around.

"Of course you can keep it alive, it's easy! And it's happiness! Everyone needs happiness, and probably you more than most."

She found a place that offered lots of light and cleared it. "This will do. It needs lots of light, so this spot is perfect."

"It's much easier than a fish, and it's prettier!"

"I'm sorry?" Kit said. He needed happiness more than most? He was genuinely confused. He didn't know what to say when she cleared his mail counter and plopped the plant down; it was in a lot of light, and he could see when it needed water far more easily than if it had been some other place.

"I kill things," he said, rubbing his head, still confused.

"You're sorry a lot," she said with a tsk as she turned to face him. "You should stop doing things that you're sorry for. Be UNsorry!" In her current state, that sounded rather profound and amazing. She'd have to remember to write that down.

"Well of course you kill things with that sort of attitude. You should stop thinking like a murderer and try instead. It gives you much nicer results than thinking all killer like." Really, the more he spoke, the more convinced she became that he definitely needed happiness, and lots of it. Next time, she'd bring brownies.

"Doesn't that look nice?" She gestured to the plant with a big smile on her face. Surely he'd think it was just as wonderful as she did.
