The small movements Charlie made spoke volumes to Cat, and unconsciously, she shifted closer to the younger woman, watching her face, listening to her speak. Something ached in Cat when Charlie confessed to not knowing why Rylee would want a relationship with her -- it was sudden and deep and she almost couldn't bear it.
Cat was quiet for a moment, trying weave and bend words so that they would somehow make sense, to comfort her, to make her understand what it was that Rylee wanted, what it is that she was missing. Instead, she was quiet for a little longer. She wondered at the details, and could guess a bit at what made Charlie worry this way.
It felt as though she was dispensing canned advice, in a way - it was familiar and basic, but somehow, she wanted it to hit home, wanted Charlie to understand what she was worth. It was unusual, and later she'd consider how unlike her it was to feel so strongly about someone she'd known for such a short time. But for now, she asked,
"How can you be so sure that it'll end badly, though?" Turning a bit more, she shook her head.
"You may have your own issues - we all do. Most of us are damaged or hurt or twisted in some way by life, and some of us hide it better than others. But the key to a successful relationship, thank God, is not being undamaged, but rather finding someone you trust enough to show your damage to, and who is worthy enough of that trust to accept it."
