The nervousness in that smile amplified Luc's confident one - because that was just too cute, in Luc's opinion. Plus, it always made it infinitely easier for Luc to take charge of the situation when the other person was nervous. Though it did set his mannerisms into a more-gracious mode than usual, and he gave a handshake that was slightly less firm than he would have under other circumstances.
"Joaquin, it's a pleasure to meet you. I must confess that I wasn't familiar with you before tonight, but your work is beautiful," he remarked with that perma-smile, motioning to the piece they were standing in front of. He liked that name, Joaquin. He liked the way it sounded when he said it, really - and it was just uncommon enough that he'd never really known anyone firsthand who'd shared the name. Luc had always been a fan of the unique. "I'm Luc Haust."
He brushed an invisible fleck of dust off the lapel of his coat, raising his glass to his lips for another drink - and by then he was almost out. That simply wouldn't work for him. He let his hand land lightly on the other man's shoulder, gesturing towards the bar with his almost-empty glass his other hand clutched like a cross. The hand on the shoulder was a bit forward a gesture on Luc's part (more forward than he usually was, at least), but if it seemed like a big deal to this guy he'd just met.. well, Luc had always been a social chameleon, and was perfectly capable of adjusting to the reaction he got from it. He didn't want to make the man uncomfortable, after all.
"Why don't we both grab a drink and we can go through the pieces I'm interested in. Discuss prices and whatnot. You let me know what you think is fair," he suggested, because he fully intended on buying more than one. Luc was always one to support starving artists - not that with how Joaquin was dressed did he look like he was 'starving' (even if he was thinner than Luc's proportions), but the man did seem somewhat out of his element with all this. Like he was putting on a show, but that was exactly what he was supposed to be doing for these pretentious self-labeled critics and connoiseurs. Luc would have had no problem monopolizing Joaquin for the evening, though - if for no other reason than to be a human shield for the fawning masses (or small groups in this case, he guessed). Should he want to take him up on that, that is - Luc wouldn't be complaining if he did.
