Now you've seen his face
Who: Lily and Kit.
What: Meeting one another while the elevator is down.
Where: The lobby
When: Saturday, July 23, 2011. Afternoon
Warnings: None yet.

Lily had just made it through a wonderful yoga class. She didn't teach on Saturday's but enjoyed attending some of the classes in the area so that she could listen to someone else's directions and concentrate on herself, rather than directing and helping others. It was her chance to calm down and relax and with recent events in her life, it was something that was certainly needed.

She walked into the lobby of her new home wearing short yoga pants, a tank top, and her unruly curls tied back into a rare pony tail. With her keys in hand and her yoga mat hanging from her shoulder she was traveling lightly and considering trying for the stairs to the apartment as an extra form of exercise. Although, she wasn't quite sure she wanted to run up stairs to the sixth floor.

The lobby was empty aside from a man she didn't recognize. Then again, she was still getting to know the people of the apartment building so there was a good chance he wasn't new, still Lily directed her long legged strides towards the elevator. She could save the stair work out for a later date.

She glanced at the man over her shoulder as she paused by the elevators, hitting the call button for the elevator. But the elevator didn't respond, didn't do anything, Lily took a step back in surprise. Maybe she would have to do her stair work out after all.

Turning to the man she smiled and approached him slowly, "Hi, I'm sorry to be bothering you. Do you know if there is anything wrong with the elevators?"

He had to say something about the elevator and not wanting to walk up the stairs, didn't he? As people passed him, several gave knowing smirks, tried the elevator, then chuckled as they hit the stairs. For Kit, he'd groaned in resignation and sat in the lobby with the Sunday preview paper [which was really the Sunday paper without any of the fancy advertisements in it]. Currently he was working his way though the business section when someone started speaking to him.

And she was pretty. Very pretty.

"I uhm, yes, it's not working," he said. Her hair was a rather unique shade, and Kit was trying to figure out if it was dyed or not. He should go for the handshake and the light joke, but he settled just for the joke, "I did mention that I wasn't going to walk up the stairs and I think the building has it out for men now."

"Oh," Lily replied. She frowned and gave a distrusting look to the elevators as she took a few lazy steps towards the man. Turning her attention back to him she brightened slightly. "I guess the building has it out for women as well."

She took a few steps forward and slipped into the seat beside the man, taking her yoga mat off from her back and resting it against her legs. "I just finished doing a work out of sorts, is it all right if I wait here with you for a few minutes? I live on the sixth floor and I don't want to run up the stairs just yet."

She reached up to her pony tail and tugged at the elastic, pulling it free from her hair, and shaking her curls loose. "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you here before... or maybe we just haven't met yet."

She was still talking. Kit gave a smile of resignation and folded his newspaper. "Seems only fair I cursed the whole building," he said.

Ah, introductions. He held out his hand. "I'm Kit - Kit Elizabeth. I just moved into D5. And there's no way I'm walking up those stairs to get home."

No way at all. None. Absolutely not. Not even if he could walk for six flights with a pretty lady. Actually, especially not then.

Lily's thin eyebrows raised. "I wouldn't want to walk up that many flights either," she said lightly and took his hand, giving it a shake. "I'm Lily Castle. I only moved here a month ago, still getting settled in and stuff. Welcome to the area."

She settled into her seat and crossed a leg. "Do you like it here so far? Or have you not been here long enough to really decide?" She smiled with a crinkling around her blue eyes, something she did when joking and maybe a slight display of nerves, but Lily didn't even notice she did it.

"I just got in a few days ago, working for a security company, but I came from Ft Meade - the military - doing the same sort of stuff, computer security software," Kit said, in a rushed voice.

"People here are very friendly," he added, frowning a bit. Made things like hacking wi-fi and spying all the harder. Like this Lily Castle. Way harder to see how strong her passwords were when he knew how unbelievably cute she was. There was a level of fairness that seemed lost when he actually knew someone and had a conversation with them. And yes, he knew, no hacking, but little hacks couldn't hurt, right? The only one he wasn't sure about was the guy who seemed interested in video games. Not that people who played video games were hackers, but they did know a fair deal more about computers than the average folk.

"Really? I lived in Maryland, just... ah what is it, south east of Ft Meade in Annapolis. Spent my childhood in Florida then my teen years in Maryland. California is a lot different from that area." She gave a slight shrug and tucked a few curls behind an ear.

"I miss the Baltimore crabs but not the weather." She dropped her head back, leaning it against the wall the chair was placed against and looked at the elevator. For a moment she considered messaging Max that she was on her way and not to worry, then she realized he would likely be asleep. And if by some miraculous surprise he was awake, he was likely so zoned into his games that he wouldn't even notice his phone going off.

"I was mostly inside," Kit said. "In the aircon."

Since she was into small talk, he might as well make some himself. "I'm from Chicago. And, unlike all those people who say they're from Chicago, but are from one of the 'burbs, I'm actually from Chicago. I'm not keeping you from anything important upstairs am I?" He noticed her look at the elevator. He had nothing else to do at the moment, and wouldn't start panicking until it was a bit later.

"I've never been to Chicago," Lily admitted as she began to lightly bounce her foot. Turning her gaze to Kit she bit her bottom lip. "No, no you're not keeping me from anything. I was just thinking if I should let my brother know I'm down here. We check in with one another, kind of have opposite schedules so we don't see each other very often."

She would give herself an hour, at most, before she'd go up the stairs. Hopefully by then the elevator would be working. She let out a small sigh and absentmindedly played with the strap of her yoga mat. "So what do you do at this security company you mentioned?"

Kit was surprised by her revelation, never having had a close family himself. "You and your brother are that exact with your schedules?" he asked. He didn't want to talk about Chicago, so he let that one go, but work? He could talk about work.

"Computer security, mostly," he said. He wanted to launch into a detailed explanation, but thought it best not to. "Making sure that systems that run on computers are safe and secure. I not only test the software, I develop patches where they're needed. It's really rather technical and most people find it boring. What is it you do?"

"He's up all night, I'm up all day, the mornings and evenings we're both out of the house... or at least one of us is," She said with a small laugh. She listened to Kit attentively and bit her lip once more. "I'm pretty computer illiterate. My brother is really into computers though! I... actually work with a natural health facility and then I teach yoga classes."

She gave her yoga mat a small kick and smiled again, looking down at her lap shyly. "But today wasn't a class day... I just went as a student."

"Natural health?" Odin said, his interest piqued. "Not going to lie, I'm usually one for pizza and the diet coke. And the computer. What's your brother do?" It would be good know know just how good her brother was with these things ...

She seemed shy about yoga and that made him self-conscious, because he didn't quite know how to reply to that. "Well," he said after a moment that he hoped wasn't too awkward. "Students are good. Learning and all that."

"My brother likes that type of food if he could get away with it," Lily said with a pleasant smile. "He is really into gaming. It kind of goes above and beyond me. I've never been very computer savvy and only manage to use mine for the most simple of things. Facebook, email, listening to music, that's about it."

She slumped down in the seat a little and played with the strap of the yoga mat. "I enjoy teaching. It's a lot of fun. But sometimes it's nice to just sit back and do yoga without having to stop and help someone balance on their head. You know?" She met his eye and her smile broadened. She didn't exactly expect him to understand what she meant. But she hoped he got the general idea.

Something clicked and Kit smiled, "Oh! Yes, he and I had a brief discussion about games the other day. I'm afraid he'd beat me, I'm not much of a gamer." He did do quite a bit more than just facebook, and email, and this new google+ that had come out.

He had no idea what she meant, but he nevertheless smiled back at her. Coding was very much a solitary engagement. He figured it might be akin to hacking for the fun of it versus exploring security flaws for his job.

"Have you been at Pax long?" he asked, conversationally. Had he asked that already? He couldn't remember. He hated small talk.

"We moved here in June," Lily said calmly. A smile was broadening on her face as she caught... what was it, nervousness? Shyness? She reached towards Kit, her fingers brushing his sleeve in an attempt to calm him. "You should come over one day... when the elevator is working. I can make you dinner and you can discuss more computer stuff with my brother."

She brushed back some of her curls. "You could consider meal to welcome you to Pax." She was lost with electronics but she knew her brother didn't socialize much. She assumed that for this man it was much the same and thought that maybe the socializing, for both her brother and Kit, would do some good.

He pulled back from her touch, surprised by it. He didn't know how to begin to interpret it. Was she trying to come on to him? Wasn't there more winking and laughing and stuff involved with that? Women were beyond a mystery to him. Computer stuff on the other hand ... "I wouldn't say no to a good chat about a computer," he said calmly - more calmly than he felt. "I didn't realise this was such a friendly community when I moved in. I - to be honest - figured a lot more people would just shut themselves up and not -" At a loss for words he gestured at the two of them. "Most people would have just kept going."

Lily slipped her hand further away from Kit and began to play with the strap of her yoga mat as she suppressed a blush. She had only meant the touch to be a comforting gesture. "Oh... I've been called the welcome committee more than once. I just... I figured why not? We'll all be seeing one another at some point. It's best to try and get along well together."

Lily made a small smile at Kit, feeling slightly awkward now for the first time. "I only have Max out here, I don't really know anyone else, so I thought it would be nice to try and make friends... even if they're all here at the apartment complex. Although there are some others in the apartment building that I've met and definitely aren't that friendly." She thought of her neighbors party during the Fourth of July weekend and the two women who had shown up. Definitely not very nice and pretty rude.

"I'm sorry," Kit said quickly. He could tell that he'd made her uncomfortable. He wasn't used to kind gestures - no-one offered them in the Military and he hadn't seen his mother in ... too long. "Humans are social creatures," he said conciliatory. "Even I can appreciate how nice Welcome Wagons are."

He smiled, "Ah, the brother who is on the exact opposite schedule as you. Must be nice, having someone here, though. I don't know anyone here. Well, except the few that I've met. Some are, as you said, not that friendly. Anyone in particular I should look out for?"

"You don't have to be sorry," Lily replied softly, her voice being honest and comforting. She smiled again and looked around the lobby. It was only the both of them but still she couldn't just talk about people.

"There are a few women who seem somewhat rude... I don't believe I would want them to be mad at me... ever. Some people have come across a little cold but maybe they just are shy or don't really want to get to know anyone." Lily gave a slight shrug. "You'll get to know people eventually. You know me now! Or at least you're getting to know me."
