They were as alike as they were different. She'd probably always known that their lives would be intwined even as she had fought the inevitable with all her bits of strength. He was a threat to her too; to her vanity, her emotions, her future. He slapped her senses and like an expensive piece of equipment made her finely tuned, tightly coiled springs go hay wire. He was the only person that made her go wild despite her carefully constructed composure.
"I will call her." She stated, wishing she had gloves or a hat on...something she could fiddle with as she struggled to keep herself reeled in. She'd heard his comment pertaining to his mother but she needed to carefully craft their conversation or he would lead her astray. He had a gift for distraction.
"Xander, my darling squash, I will leave if this doesn't work out for us...I haven't decided yet what I shall do.I've come, I am here and that should be enough for now." That was all she needed to say but she wanted to make it perfectly obvious that as sweet as his offer had been it was really her that was doing him the favor (she believed that in earnest). She felt he couldn't stomach this agreement with any other woman and she didn't know of any other woman who'd put up with all his discretions.
The elevator lurched to a stop and she along with it. She reached out for his arm to steady herself but as soon as she was in no danger of falling she released him, picked up her luggage and stepped out first when the doors slid open, releasing them. After he moved out after her and they were again along side each other she inquired, "and what's this about a shock. What's happened?"
