Who Are the People in Your Neighborhood
Who: Tanya and OPEN TO ALL RESIDENTS
What: A get together so the residents can be sized up.
Where: 606
When: 7:30 pm till whenever she decides she's done
Warnings: TBA
Notes: TBA

Tanya regretted thinking this was a good idea. This was going to require more energy than she cared to expend. The only thing that kept her going was constantly reminding herself that it would work in her favor in the long run. She could get most of the boring introductions out of the way in one night, she could observe them with others and hopefully she could gauge them on a scale of usefulness. Of course, this would all be a bust if no one showed.

A call from her mother to wish her happy birthday had made deciding the menu easy. She followed tradition and went with barbequed hamburgers and hot dogs, with barbeque sauce on the side, chips and buffalo chicken dip, grilled corn on the cob, sweet potato pie, brownies and strawberry shortcake. It wasn't exactly party food per say, but it was a traditional Fourth of July feast back home. Her mothers voice had poked at a home sickness that lay dormant an ignored most of the time, and she had not been able to resist the call of her mothers recipes.

And as promised, there was the liquor. She had a selection of beers, wines, whiskeys and vodkas. It wasn't much, but it was alcohol. If they wanted something else, they'd have to go out and get it themselves.

Having no sofa, the seating was minimum. She'd raided thrift stores earlier in the week and picked up a selection on mismatched wooden chairs that she accented with equally mismatched pillows for cushions. Was it pretty? Not really. Did she care? Not really. It would all be gone tomorrow, once it served its purpose.

She had been a little more particular with her appearance. She wore a tight black camisole top over a pair of skinny jeans. She had on a pair of tight black boots and kept her hair loose, braiding strands of it in the front and pinning them back to keep it from her face. It wasn't exactly modest, but modesty never made much of an impression in her mind. She glanced at the clock as she touched up her make up. It was about 7:25. She took a deep breath and squared her shoulders. It was showtime.

Much to Charlie's chagrin (or would it be considered luck?), she was not to be the first to appear at the party. Rather, she would be one half of a pair, a rather friendly woman who came directly from next door. What she was grateful for, in the end, was the opening of the door and the appearance of their hostess, which saved her from having to make nice with this Lily person. Her mouth half opened to deliver a somewhat scalding reply, the jaw snapped shut in favor of turning to view the movement of the door opening.

"Fuckin' swear, this must be the first time I've ever been on time to anythin'," she started, taking easy strides into Tanya's (she knew it wasn't Tiffany) apartment and giving it a once over before zeroing in on the smell of food. Her stomach gave a light grumble, and her mind correlated the presence of food with that of alcohol. Turning on her heel and hooking thumbs into the belt loops of her pants, she glanced from the face of Lily to that of Tanya.

She hadn't met either of them before, perhaps a perk of living on the first floor was having to deal so little with one's neighbors, but something about Tanya niggled a half-forgotten memory in the back of her mind. It was a similar sensation she'd had with many who lived in the building, and the sensation was beginning to be vexing. "So. Some party."

Lily grinned at Tanya and eased herself into the apartment, immediately approving of the decor, but quickly hiding a frown at the other woman's lack of manners. She watched the shorter brunette move through the apartment then opted to ignore her comments. She could work on figuring that woman out later.

Turning to Tanya she smiled sweetly. "I'm Lily, if you don't remember. It looks like you're all set up and ready to go but if you need any help, just ask, I'll be happy to step in."

She took a few long strides into the apartment and glanced at the food, carefully keeping her face cheerful just in case she found something she disapproved of so she didn't offend Tanya. To her disappointment she found typical barbeque fare. Well, she could eat the corn then slip back to her apartment for other food.

Turning back to Tanya, Lily dropped her hands at her sides and frowned slightly, "I see you didn't get a couch yet. You know, the yoga studio I work at was considering replacing some of their furniture. It might not be the best but if you're interested in seeing any of it, you're welcome to. I haven't seen much else other than expensive furniture stores."

Her attention was drawn to the brunette repeatedly and she didn't like it. She lacked manners, grace and appeared to be uncouth. It was hardly the sort of person Tanya wanted to associate with on a social level. Perhaps, though, she could find uses for her in other areas. Now, her name. Had she given her name before? Tanya couldn't remember, but now planned to etch it into memory as a person of possible interest.

As for the other one, her neighbor, she spared her a slight smile. She made an ideal neighbor. Quiet, left Tanya alone, but offered to be of assistance should it be needed. Whether or not all of that was merely superficial remained to be seen.

"Some party indeed," she replied with a casual shrug. Honestly, if people didn't show up it was no skin off of her back. It would be mildly irritating to have to go about socializing to get what she wanted, but it spared her having all those strangers in her personal space.

Couch. Lily was talking about a couch. She tilted her head slightly and narrowed her eyes slightly, focusing on the red head for a moment. The idea of a couch that was used by sweaty, gross people was a little sickening to her stomach. Who knew how many unclean people had ground their dirt and germs into the fabric.

"Perhaps I'll take a look," she said noncommittally. It was highly doubtful she actually would.

To say Charlie was getting bored quickly was like saying alligators differentiated from crocodiles because of their teeth. With a final glance to the hostess and to the woman with the all too sunny disposition, she gave a huff and turned around to start helping herself to the food table.

Might as well salvage what she could, and free food was free food. One over laden paper party plate later, Charlie was seated with the hot dogs, corn, some of the sweet potato pie and a large slice of the short cake balanced precariously on her lap. Large portions of the large portions were slowly being shoveled into her small mouth.

"So you drag us all up here to talk about furniture? And what's with so many chairs - you preach in here on Sundays or something?"

The words were muffled and distorted because of being forced out through so much food. A bite of hot dog was followed by the corn, switched up for the pie, but at least she was leaving the shortcake for last. Or maybe she'd forgotten she had it - either way, the main concern was where the hell she was putting it all away in that tiny form.

Toli already didn't like this Tanya woman, she was annoying and stuck-up, and Toli didn't have high hopes for her standards of either food or alcohol. So the big surprise was why Toli was bothering to show up. Free food was still free food, and she could choke down some alcohol if it wasn't terrible.

She breezed through the door after a cursory knock and was surprised to see so few people there. She walked in just in time to hear a comment about preaching and snickered.

"Don't worry about me, I've literally been washed in blood of lamb," she said by way of greeting, making her way over to the food. All in all, not a bad selection. She loaded up a plate and took a quick glance around. Same layout as hers, but not ideal for hosting anything. Not that hers was either, but Toli appreciated the lack of furnishings. It was like a passive-aggressive party, which made her want to like Tanya, just a little bit.

"So, I'm Toli," she offered, plate of food in hand. "And one of ya's gotta be Tanya."

Lily fought off the urge to wrinkle her nose at the small woman's lack of manners as another woman walked into the apartment. Lily hovered by the food, watching this new party goer dig in, and tried to think of what she could eat that wasn't too unhealthy. All Lily ultimately ended up grabbing was a plate of sweet potato pie.

"Um, I'm Lily," she replied to the new woman then looked to Tanya. "That's our hostess."

Lily smiled weakly then made her way to one of the chairs in Tanya's living room. She sat down at the edge, placing the plate of food on her lap, and began to politely take small bites of the pie. She couldn't deny that it tasted wonderful, even if it was likely not organic. Lily felt this was a slow start to the party and was rather thankful that the sun would be setting in an hour and she could slip away to go to bed. Maybe she could even convince Max to come over and take her place.

Tanya held her tongue at Charlie's remark about the chairs. She wasn't sure if it was because she didn't feel the need to respond to such a question, or if it was because she was appalled by her speaking with her mouth full. Watching her eat was almost fascinating. Rather horrifying, but fascinating. At least she could be sure that it was being appreciated.

Then the door opened to reveal another brunette. That feeling of recognition was present at the back of her mind, but it was dwarfed by her feeling of disdain. Walking in without waiting to be welcomed, crass remarks, lack of etiquette. What was with the brunettes in this building? Tanya eyed her sniffed and folded her arms in front of her.

"As she indicated, I'm Tanya. Toli, did you say?" She refrained from offering her hand for a handshake or offering a nice to meet you. It would be a lie if she did. It was hardly nice. Perhaps she would redeem herself as the night went on.

She doubted it.

Lily, so far, was the only person in this place that knew how to behave in public. She was beginning to be very grateful for her neighbor now that she had seen the alternatives. She'd have to express her appreciation once this was all over. Till then, she decided she would maintain a position by the red head. She appeared to be the only bastion of class here.

The newcomer was something of a surprise, and the fact that she'd simply welcomed herself into the apartment, thus throwing things out of whack, struck Charlie as a good thing. Someone needed to mix this up a little, and clearly this woman, this Toli, was eagerly volunteering for the task.

"You always invite yerself in unannounced? Some people might mark that as rude behavior," she continued, mouth constantly filled with another bite or forkful of something on her plate, her eyes (probably like all others in the room) instantly going to the woman who now strolled the apartment as though she owned it. Of course, Charlie was certainly one to speak on rude behavior - it took one to know one, after all - but she was never someone to miss an opportunity to be hypocritical.

"Grab some'a the corn, it's somewhat edible," was the last remark before a large bite of the corn blocked any understandable words. Despite the rather mean words, Charlie did in fact like the food, which was why she was putting so much of it away so quickly. However, she was no connoisseur of edible foodstuffs, so her words were usually not worth much.

Toli wasn't one for shaking hands, so the fact that Tanya hadn't offered was fine by her. She turned to look at the only other woman eating, and shrugged, "I was invited and the door was unlocked. What sorta party do you have to wait to be double invited for?"

Corn was a good suggestion and she grabbed some of that, looking Tanya over. Small. Young. Toli couldn't figure out her game in inviting people in, unless it really was just a passive-aggressive showing. "So whats your story?" she asked the hostess, spinning one of the chairs around to sit on it backwards, using the lip of the back as a makeshift table for her plate.

Lily slumped in her chair as she witnessed the exchange between the brunettes but felt a surge of comfort as Tanya took a position closer to her. She smiled at her hostess and commented quietly, "The pie is really delicious. I would love to have your recipe."

She went quiet after that as the other women continued to talk and concentrated on her food, considering what she would get next that wouldn't completely destroy her digestive system.

Tanya arched an eyebrow at the rather forward Toli. She resisted the urge to respond to Charlie's remark about her food. She was extremely sensitive to remarks about her cooking and she knew damn well the corn was more than just slightly edible. Her hands clenched into fists and she counted in her head, reminding herself that this was not the moment to lose her cool.

"Glad you enjoy it," she remarked dryly. Her teeth clamped down on her tongue to prevent anything more from coming out. She quickly turned her attention to Toli to change the subject.

"My "story"? I don't believe I have much of a story." It wasn't the brunettes business anyway.

She nodded at Lily. She would share a variation of it, but not the exact recipe. That was hers to keep. But Lily didn't have to know that.

[ ooc: don't worry about it :D ]

The rest of her plate devoured, Charlie gulped down the shortcake in three large bites, slightly smearing some of it along the edges of her mouth. Her tongue and fingers made quick work of the leftovers on her face, the soft popping noise of her lips suctioning her fingers a punctuation to her finished meal. At Tanya's remark, a smirk's ghost appeared on her face. Charlie rose to her feet, leaving the dirtied plate and used plastic cutlery on the chair behind her.

"So...we gonna get some music goin' or somethin'? Or are we all supposed tah sit around and chit chat like birds?" She glanced from the newcomer - Toli - to the hostess, spreading her hands wide. "I mean, what's a party without a little music? Maybe we need to pop open some lubrication," she continued, walking away to the far end of the food table and laying claim to one of a dozen of bottles sitting there for the taking. The one that came to hand was a generic whiskey, but Charlie wasn't picky about her liquor or her food. Eschewing a cup, she opened the bottle without asking for an invitation and took a deep drink.

Pulling the lip of the bottle away from her mouth with a slight hiss, she gave a slight whoop and raised it toward the ceiling. "Now there's a party, if I've ever been tah one. You - Toli? What kinda name is Toli, anyway...you gonna join in on the festivities? I don't think these other two are inclined." She pointed the butt of the bottle in Toli's direction, her face expectant for the woman's reply. If anything, Charlie was deeply interested in finding out what level this woman's tolerance was at.
