He waved off the suggestion, shaking his head before the last word had passed her lips. The mere mention of a bribe - especially one as insultingly cheap as this - should have offended him; on some level, perhaps it did. But he had long ago gotten acclimated to the fact that ugly or no, he seemed to look the part of a corrupt cop, the kind who would just as gladly take a telescoping baton to a mouthy suspect as look the other way if the right number of bills greased his palm. Such assumptions, unfounded as they were, no longer wielded that initially painful bite.
"Face it, kiddo, you got sloppy seconds. I'm sure it's not the first time and it won't be the last." He flashed a feral grin. "If you hurry, though, you might get to the station in time to get your picture taken with one of the officers who really was here on time."
