Elias set his fingertips on his eyelids and pulled lightly. Did he think Ms. St. Giles had anything to do with it.... His heart said no. But his heart had led him to dark places in the past. It could not be trusted.
"Logic suggests," he intoned, "That we examine all possibilities before discarding any. Given that she had no contact with Rylee before his symptoms manifested, the likelihood is very low." He paused, then did not tell Charlie that Catherine stayed with him through a good portion of that night. She couldn't have returned to interact with Rylee during the events that Charlie outlined.
"I was taken to the hospital for my symptoms," he continued. "And no doctor could name what was the cause of my discomfort."
Then what did that leave?
They were either insane -- the lot of them, suffering from delusions that manifested physical symptoms -- or medicine had no easy or common ways of detecting what was wrong with them -- or there was no physical or mental explanation. That left a supernatural one. Elias felt distinctly uncomfortable. He truly put little stock in the supernatural, but...
"I am at a loss," he said at last, unable to suggest some form of witchcraft. "But perhaps we two, you and I, should pay Rylee a visit soon. I am in 202. Find me when you have the time, yes?"
