She listened to him, and she ran her thumb over the edge of the envelope as he spoke. Once he quieted, she ducked more under the blankets he'd pulled up around them, and she slid her thumb under the edge of the envelope flap.
She slid her thumb all the way across slowly, carefully, and once the flap was entirely open, she pulled out the letter, but she did not open it.
