She held the letter out in front of both of them, her fingers shaking just a little on the edges of the envelope. "You have a fever," she said when he leaned his head against hers, because it was easier to play nurse and worry about him than it was to actually open the envelope she was holding.
She waited a moment. "Should we plan for bad news first? Am I going to scurry out of here in a terribly embarrassed and panicked state?" she asked.
