Rylee let out a laugh and looked to the ground, running a hand through his hair as his laughter eased up into a chuckle. "Maybe not so much. I never had many friends when I was a kid, just one really. I was far from socially competent. But my father was a war buff and he and I used to go see the reenactments together. It's basically a lot of men in the period dress of the Civil War with camp sites, eating food cooked off a fire, and then running around in a field shooting blanks at each other. But they always had live target practices to get a sense of the real deal. Not to mention live canon blasts. I think that was my favorite since canons are like mindless destruction."
He was getting the buzzing excitement he always felt when talking about the Civil War and reigned in his emotions so as not to scare Samuel, although he suspected Samuel would find it all just as interesting and not be frightened away at all. Rylee felt both pleasure and disappointment in this. Maybe he liked to watch the glint of worry in people's eyes as he began to spit out facts, but it wasn't a conscious pleasure of his. But the pleasure was certainly caused by the fact that he was able to share something that was important to him with someone other than his parents or Charlie. It was a rare thing.
With a glowing smile and the now permanent glint to his eye, Rylee looked at Samuel and replied, "Where is there a range? I'm still pretty new to the area and haven't had much of a chance to see what's around here."
