"Well I guess I couldn't have asked for a better neighbor to have," Rylee replied with a genuine smile. That was good, someone who was military and a part of SWAT? With Rylee's anxiety it was comforting to know that this man lived so close by. Not that he would go to him for help or anything... well, hopefully he would never need to... but it was nice to know that he was there. In fact, Rylee felt that if he needed to ask this man for some sort of aid he would be willing to provide it.
But Samuel's question brought a small amount of color to Rylee's cheeks, although his smile didn't leave his face. He had an embarrassing tendency to blush while he was a kid, making it one of the many reasons he was teased, but during his adult life it only became a subtle reddening of his cheeks rather than his entire face. "I've always been very interested in military history- specifically the Civil War. I had a BA in History and I wanted to get my Masters as well. I'm hoping to get my PhD in a few years and become a curator for a museum." Most people didn't find history very fascinating, certainly not fascinating enough to leave a decently ranked position in the military, and that was the cause of Rylee's embarrassment. But simply speaking of the Civil War, having the small chance that this topic of conversation may continue, created a spark in Rylee's blue eyes that wasn't there before.
