Fee only laughed at her sister's initial reaction, even though if Karin hadn't realized who she was and stopped herself in time, Fee might well have lost an eye, since her afterthought-dodge came far later than it should have. This hardly seemed to trouble Fee, though, as she threw her arm around the elder Shepherd, squeezing tightly enough to compensate for the fact that it wasn't a full hug. For her part, she'd taken a look at her sister's attire and grinned, shaking her head. Of course Karin was probably getting ready for bed; she kept the most ungodly hours.
Before she could comment, though, Karin's question took her by surprise.
"Smell what?" she asked, then looked up, as though she might be able to surmise something through the layers of concrete and steel that separated them from the theoretical fire. Just as quickly, she turned back to Karin, arching a brow.
"Did you smell smoke?" Fee asked. "I didn't see anything. You'd think in a place like this, if there'd been a fire, the trucks would've been all blazing cherries and up the stairs ten minutes ago. Although that would mean firemen, which would be cool."
Fiona gave her sister a cheeky grin, though her expression sobered just as quickly.
