Shae was so very, very pissed off at the moment.
It had been one of those days when nothing seemed to run smoothly. After nearly six years (and many a frustrated WHACK against the dashboard), his mobile phone had finally given out, and he'd had to call in to report his most recently apprehended skip by way of a payphone on Lincoln Avenue. This was, of course, after he'd realized that both of the phones he'd tried on Broadway were out of order.
Oh, and then there was the small, nearly immaterial fact that said skip had nearly blown a hole through his shoulder with a concealed Beretta .45. He'd had to bash the moron's head against the hood of his car to immobilize him just long enough to administer handcuffs, then shove him into the passenger seat, unconscious and a little bloody. Shae had somehow managed to avoid getting shot, but the experience had been jarring all the same. And of course, now that the culprit had sustained actual physical injuries, there was the possibility of a lawsuit.
The adrenaline was still coursing through his veins as he turned the corner into the familiar Pax parking lot, car lurching forward as his foot intentionally pressed down on the accelerator instead of the brake. It was a reckless move to be sure, but it was just after midnight and, really, who would be out wandering around the parking lot at this hour?
Just as Shae had reached the far end of the lot where he normally parked, a figure suddenly appeared in his headlights, and he wrenched his steering wheel to one side and swerved, tires squealing as he narrowly avoided a collision. Thankfully there were no cars in any of the surrounding spaces, and as he threw on the brake and sat there in his seat for several moments, trying to calm the fierce pounding of his heart, he felt a sudden spark of rage. What the fucking hell?! You could hear that goddamn engine from a mile away! Were they DEAF?!
His car had slid length-wise across several parking spots, and he threw open the door and climbed out, dark eyes smoldering as he closed the gap between himself and the obviously shaken individual that had come thisclose to being roadkill. He intended to give this person a BIG ol' piece of his mind, but as soon as his eyes finally settled over their face...he suddenly found himself at a loss for words.
