Notes: Naea comes to visit a very shut-in Kami whom she misses terribly...



Kami.

Naea missed her friend so and knew that the woman who cheered her up so needed some cheering up herself. She had some of the best news in the world, and Kami had been so quiet and just so out of sorts. She couldn't remember the last time Kami actually came to see her. Christmas, perhaps.

Just for Kami, she'd baked up a batch of her Mama's best recipe of biscuits and brought them upstairs with a jar of honey. It was really hard to go wrong with a warm homemade biscuit. It wasn't chocolates for Valentine's Day, but sometimes the best things just didn't come inside a store-bought box. Lord knew that Kami had been there several times over for her. Now it was Naea's turn. She knocked on the door quietly and waited ever so patiently.

The silence lasted so long that Naea began to wonder if Kami had stepped out or was at work. The other woman had to work yet, presumably, and do things like get groceries and check mail. Just because Naea hadn't seen her meant that there was anything wrong. Right?

The door finally opened to her repeated knock and Naea had to blink for a moment at the dimmed interior. A faint noise met her squinting and the light flickered on to reveal Kami standing there, head tilted to one side. If the lighting change had not been enough to inspire a pause, the other woman's appearance made up for that lack. Naea had never seen Kami in anything less than chic adorableness - even her workout gear tended to match and flatter her curves. Kami was nothing if not aware of how best to display her charms.

So it raised the question if the woman standing just inside Kami's apartment was a pod person or not. The weak but familiar smile answered the question in the unfortunate negative. It was indeed Kami who stood there with her hair in two uneven, loosening plaits. A blanket hung crookedly over her thin shoulders, parting to expose a tattered wife-beater that was possibly a relic from a former boyfriend. The hems of her cotton sleep pants showed serious fraying and a hole was developing on the one knee. Faint circles showed beneath her too-big dark eyes.

Kami tried the smile again; only the one corner of her mouth moved upwards this time and she gave a little shrug. "Sorry," she murmured. "I didn't hear the knock." She paused and studied Naea. "What's up, hon?" she finally asked.

She almost gasped at the sight that greeted her at the door. Kami had never looked so... defeated. "Oh, honey," said Naea, holding onto the bowl of warm biscuits with one arm while reaching up to brush some loose strands of hair out of Kami's eyes. "I've come to bring you me and some carbs for Valentine's Day." Maybe a hot bubble bath, too...In all truthfulness, if Naea hadn't expected something wasn't quite right, she would have pegged Kami at being out tonight.

"It's all about you, sweetheart." Linnaea smiled. It was pretty and it was sweet and... was it getting warm in here?

"Me?" Kami seemed non-plussed at the announcement and blinked. Then again, maybe she was feeling the temperature difference, too; her cheeks flushed slightly beneath her olive complexion. With a nod, though, she stepped back further into the apartment and allowed Naea entrance. "I'm sorry about the mess," she mumbled and she fidgeted with her blanket to pull it tighter to her shoulders. She watched Naea with a strange sort of wariness. "I've been a little sick."

Kami remained a really, really terribly liar. That was reassuring, at least.

Linnaea glanced around at the very sadness that was Kami's apartment. Usually it was so alive. Now it appeared as though life left about two weeks ago. "Hey, it's all right. If you're not feeling well, sitting in the dark isn't always good, peach." Did she just call her a fruit? "Sit yourself down and let me play maid for a little while. Get some fresh air and sunshine in here, yeah?"

Bowl in hand, she pressed the free one against the small of Kami's back gently while she guided her towards the sofa, then made a slow step change towards the bathroom instead. "When's the last time you ate or bathed?" The question was fairly to the point, but it was important. "Doesn't matter. I'm getting a hot bath ready for you and something to eat while you sit in it."

Kami would be lovely in a tub full of bubbles with candles all around.

Naea's cheeks went hot.

"I've been eating." Kami's cheeks flushed an even more noticeable pink and she neatly sidestepped Naea's very nearly possessive hand. "And I'm just slobby, not dirty," she protested. Her movement brought them both to a halt in the narrow hallway leading towards both bedroom and bathroom and she shifted to lean back against the wall, hands tucked behind her in a manner reminiscent of the stereotypical naughty school-girl. She looked up at Naea from beneath dark eyelashes and the blush still lingered as her mouth twisted into a crooked little smile. "And I hate baths," she added. "I like showers way better with all the water coming down on me and the steam."

She listened to Kami's minimal argument about eating, being dirty and preferring the hot water to run ... all .. down.

Naea had to shake herself out of wherever her brain had just traveled to. What was with her today? This was Kami. The very lovely Kami who was her best friend. Didn't she notice how hot it was getting in her apartment? Linnaea folded her arms underneath her chest, lifting a certain 'pair' up ever so slightly, and found an easy, sweet smile. "As long as you're getting wet, I don't care how you do it." Bwuh? "You do that and I'll find you something comfortable for you to slip into when you're through."

For a long moment, Naea thought Kami might argue further but, in the end, she simply nodded. Before obeying, though, she suddenly darted forward and brushed a warm, slightly trembling kiss over the other woman's cheek. Then, with a little laugh, Kami dropped her blanket to the hallway floor and disappeared into the bathroom.

Five minutes later, the sound of water pouring down drifted through the builder's standard door. It didn't take much longer for the fragrant scent of jasmine to permeate the area just outside the bathroom, squeezing and seeping through the cracks surrounding the door. A few other noises reached Naea and she thought it best to carry out her promise of warm PJs. Sighs and coos of pleasure were not helping her current state at all.

When the water finally stopped, Naea felt only relief. Twenty minutes had felt an eternity and there had been a moment when she pondered charging to the rescue. Who took such long showers when they had company, anyway? Picking up the pajamas she had chosen, Naea padded down the hall to stand outside the bathroom.

For her part, Kami stood on the other side of the door, naked and dripping, her dark hair a mess of random curls sticking to rosy-warm skin. Pressing her palms flat to the door in front of her, Kami leaned against it. She felt the smooth wood against her cheek and closed her eyes. Naea was on the other side of the door. She knew it. Her sweet, hard-working, big-hearted friend. The thought of going out to her, though, froze Kami in place. She never wanted anyone to see her like this. Especially not Naea. Precious and brave and cute as a button.

"Naea?" she called quietly through the door. "Did you find something?"

The fluttering feeling Naea was left with after Kami's brief kiss was something that she'd not really experienced with her friend. Kami had kissed Naea's cheek plenty of times.

Oh, but it was a lovely feeling to have.

She waited until she thought the other woman's soft vocals were going to make her knock down the door and jump underneath the water with her before meandering into the living room briefly, drawing back the curtains and the blinds to at least one window before opening it up. The warmth of the sun coming into the remarkably cold (especially for Kami) room made Linnaea smile, and a gentle breeze started to air it out somewhat. Generally, Kami's scent was absolutely divine, but not even the most holy-scented individuals would come out smelling like roses after being cooped up for days.

Naea dropped off a couple of cups to the kitchen before she set to find her friend a set of pajamas. Of course, she had to find the correct set of drawers. And of course it took her through Kami's more intimate items, some of which made her blush by simply considering Kami dressed in such things. All the time. Once she'd managed to find the correct hiding place, Naea picked out a rather darling (and comfortable-looking) set of nice, warm, comfortable, cute flannel bottoms with a blue, peach and white checker pattern with a matching peach camisole. It in itself was decorated with a smiley-faced glass of soda with a straw and ice cubes saying "drink me!" in a pretty script.

When the water stopped, Naea stood outside the bathroom door with a good bit of anticipation, a feeling which made no sense considering the context. The voice that cut through the brief silence made her jump slightly. "Yeah, I did. They look quite comfortable..." She set her hand on the doorknob, heart racing, and turned so that she might open it just far enough to hand Kami the small bundle of clothing. "Here, peach."

Kami took a step back as Naea pushed the door open the barest of slivers and then almost immediately shivered as the steamy air of the bathroom met the cooler, dryer air of the hallway. Worrying her bottom lip with her teeth, she cast her eyes around the tidy bathroom. Of course she had left her robe in the bedroom. "Figures," she muttered under her breath. Naea's presence had rattled her, she decided, upsetting the pleasant little cocoon of numbness that she had been cultivating.

Naea felt like an abrupt ray of sunshine, a breath of fresh air, any number of hackneyed cliches.

She was also just outside, waiting. Kami eyed the crack in the door and then felt a faint smile curve her lips. Turning, she snatched one of her violently purple bath sheets and wound it about her still-damp curvy figure. She tucked it in safe and sound before checking the fit and smoothing it down against her body. The terrycloth felt warm and soft, wicking away moisture quickly. All the better to change into pajamas then, she thought.

Then Kami stepped forward and threw open the door to reward Naea's offering with another soft smile. It still felt like she was moving through clouds but her body was fast remembering what to do as she shifted her weight, one terrycloth-covered hip jutting out saucily. She held out her hands for the sleepwear. "Thank you, sweetie," she said. "I hope you didn't find anything embarrassing."

Naea felt her cheeks flush quickly, and she smiled prettily and appreciatively as the Venus-like figure stepped out of the steamy bathroom, covered in such a royal color, hair waved and wet as though she only just arrived on a opalescent shell. She handed the pajamas over and shook her head slowly. "No, though I admit I'm slightly jealous of the things I know you'd look fantastic in that I'm sure I'd fill out like a rag doll." Her beautiful friend was just that--beautiful.

Biting her lip, she glanced down at the floor (My, isn't that pattern interesting?). "I'll leave you to get dressed, peach, and warm up some dinner for you, yeah?"

"Thank you so much." It was practically a coo and Kami quickly brought the small pile of clothing to hold against her chest. She hoped she wasn't blushing again. For some reason, she kept thinking of the state of her apartment, her prior state of slob-hood, and the embarrassment bled through the fading numbness. She could barely remember the numb feeling, actually, in the face of Naea's presence.

She smiled and gave a little laugh, shrugging her shoulders and hugging her pajamas closer. "Alright," she agreed. "But nothing too big. Maybe... Hmm, maybe one of your nummy-looking biscuits there all dripping in honey?"

"Anything you want," came Naea's reply. As she stepped away to allow Kami her time to change into her comfortable self, her hand reached out and brushed against her friend's cheek; gently and adoring. Naea bit her lip against her blush that she could feel all the way to her toes as she went down the hall and into the kitchen.

As she got plates around and managed to find a can of lemonade concentrate in the freezer to mix up, Linnaea's thoughts were becoming terribly consumed with wanting to do any bidding Kami may have, just to make her happy. The sensation of fingertips on exquisitely soft skin made her heart beat just a little bit faster, made her breathing run just a bit more quickly.

It took almost no time at all for Kami to slip into the chosen pajamas. She hesitated, though, peering at her reflection in the mirror for long moments. Finally, she decided that it was almost there and silently scampered back to her room for a bra and a big plastic hair clip. Twisting up her damp mass of hair only took a few more moments after she had slipped into the bra and she posed again in front of the full-length mirror in her bedroom. She bit her lip. Almost there. Expertly, she teased one more curl from the haphazard updo, arranging it to hang against her cheek. Then she smiled. Exactly what Naea deserved, she thought. Her at her cutest.

Taking a final breath, Kami strolled back down the hall to find her friend still puttering around in the kitchen and she leaned against the bar to watch her with a crooked little smile. "You are so very, very sweet," she sighed. "I'm glad I opened the door."

The wooden spoon was still swirling around the pitcher merrily when Naea looked over demurely. "I am, too. I don't feel..." Naea paused her stirring and speech as she looked for the right word. "Right when I don't see you for days at a time. Maybe it isn't the best phrase, but it's how I feel. I worry, peach."

Lemonade was poured over ice and rather hot biscuits were placed on plates, and when Linnaea grabbed the jar of honey, she bit her lip and glanced over at the curve of Kami's hips with something of a smile. She suddenly felt overdressed in her 'Doctor Who' TARDIS t-shirt and cutoffs. "Did you want butter with these or jam as an alternative..." 'To honey' is what she wanted to finish with, but it would do.

Kami smiled without thinking, buoyed up by the sight of her lovely friend in her kitchen. For the moment, she forgot about the state of her apartment, an unusual mess and neglect for her usually tidy self. All she could think of was the growing warmth low in her stomach and the tickle up her spine. The feeling was familiar and delicious and somewhere in her still cloudy mind arose familiar images linked to the sensations - Shae, Jack...

She shivered and wrapped her arms around her abdomen, breasts shifting up and forward in response to the new position. A momentary feeling of betrayal slipped through her mind but, looking at the concerned expression on Naea's face, she forgot it almost immediately. How could anything involving Linnaea Benson be anything except great?

"Join me on the couch?" she offered with a renewed little smile. "Bring the honey." With that, she spun on her heel and sashayed back to the living room and her comfy gray couch.

Naea gave a quick lift of her eyebrow along with a grin that could melt the sun as she watched those hips her eyes followed earlier move back to the living room, and decided against plates, grabbing napkins, honey and a couple of glasses before she followed suit.

Setting the items on the coffee table in some sort of order, she spoke as she maneuvered. "My T-Rex arms don't seem to carry much unless I'm hauling a huge tray of food. Lemme grab the biscuits and lemonade... Honey by itself doesn't fill you up much." Standing up straight with a small bounce and a piece of hair falling in her face, Linnaea made her way back for the lemonade and biscuits. She had thought all the while that there were plenty of applications for honey that would fill her up, but for very different reasons.

The fluttering feeling from earlier had reemerged as she viewed a reclining Kami on the sofa. It made her weak in the knees and she wanted nothing more than to cuddle up with her friend and take in the scent of her soft skin... "Hope you like 'em. Best when they're hot and soft. With honey."

Proceeding to pour them both a glass of lemonade, Naea was finding it very difficult to sit still.

"You are just too sweet," Kami repeated as she took one of the glasses and sipped. She wrinkled her nose at the tartness but swallowed, nonetheless. Then she leaned forward to set it on the coffee table once more. Her hand drifted over to the bowl to retrieve a delicious-looking biscuit. "I probably haven't eaten anything so good in a while. I've been a little bad with groceries," she admitted with a sheepish giggle.

Then she took her first bite and allowed her eyes to close in blissful surrender. Kami's face was never built for lies; emotions ran across her features unchecked and easily read. Right now, she appeared to be in sinful heaven. "Mmmmm, so good."

"Oh," she blushed and reached over for one herself. "Just an old recipe. Rarely do I make them for myself, but erm..." Naea nibbled on her bottom lip gently and smiled, taking in the vision before her as she leaned back on the sofa, biscuit and honey in hand. "I'm really glad you like them."

Carefully, Linnaea tipped the bear over, biscuit in the other hand, and began to drizzle the sticky sweet all over the top of it. She watched how it glided and melded together, touching her fingers if she happened to go too far one direction. Her expression was one of anticipation and a smattering of lust as she watched her own actions, hoping that maybe Kami was watching, too. When she was through, Naea sat the honey back on the table and proceeded to lick the excess from the fingers that held the heavy, delightful biscuit. Soon, she too was enjoying her own creation. Never had a batch of hot biscuits seemed so... beautiful.

Suddenly, Naea felt a hand touch her shoulder and she turned her head as the sensation was replaced with something heavier, finding her face to face with Kami's soft smile. The other woman had moved her hand away and now rested her cheek against the worn cotton covering Naea's shoulder. They were so close that she could feel Kami's warm breath tease her own lips. Kami's eyes were dark and she said nothing, waiting for Naea to swallow.

When she finally did, Kami laughed softly and closed her eyes, squirming her curvy body into a close fit beside Naea. She felt warm, warmer, and the nearness gave her butterflies in her stomach. It was so strange but it was still so very nice. "Do you like everything with honey?" she asked in a breathy whisper.

"Only on things that are warm..." Naea gave a slow, sweet smile that seemed to have just an undertone of something more savory. "And soft."

Kami was intensely close and Naea's more intimate areas were having all sorts of delicious reactions to her. The woman's scent was intoxicating; her voice made Linnaea's breath catch in her throat. As if on cue, though, Naea caught up some of the honey on her index finger, biting her lip somewhat shyly as she held it up for Kami. "Would you like a taste?"

Kami's smile was worse than that of a cat faced with a canary doing the backstroke in a saucer of cream. "If you're really sure you don't mind sharing," she purred, suiting her tone to the expression. As she reached up to wrap fingers around Naea's slim wrist, Kami felt the flutter again and licked her lips. Her eyes focused on Naea's for a long moment and then she dropped them to study the honey-coated finger thoughtfully. Her thumb rubbed idly at the inside of Naea's wrists and she savored the warmth of her friend's skin.

"Well," she finally continued, having received no response to the contrary, "I've got a pretty bad sweet tooth so..." Trailing off, Kami bent to bring her mouth to Naea's raised fingertip. First in a kiss, then with a delicate brush of her tongue. "Mmm, that's good honey."

Her eyes closed slowly as her lips parted ever so slightly, a softly shuttering breath that she'd been holding left her before her bottom lip went between her teeth. If she'd experience anything more erotic in her life, Naea was hard-pressed to find it right then. If she said she wasn't the most turned on she'd ever been in her life, the rest of her body was gladly betraying her.

Even with the window open, it really was getting quite warm...

Eventually, Naea's eyes fluttered open to study Kami's features, and what she saw created a smile that could turn even the most cynical heartless bastard into a lovelorn servant. "Always more where that came from, peach," she said, her voice slightly husky. "Just remember that you're always sweeter than honey."

Kami had returned her head to Naea's shoulder and she regarded the other woman's smile as her special, well-earned reward. Her own expression had mellowed into something that mixed dreamy with the heat, a hungry but hesitant sort of want in her gaze. Noticing Naea's attention on her, Kami sighed and turned her face to nuzzle into the shoulder beneath her head. "Why do you keep calling me 'Peach'?" she asked.

It was something that Naea hadn't particularly thought about since she'd arrived at the apartment. The term of endearment had been so perfect. Her brow narrowed in thought, though not a heavy one. "You know," she finally replied. "I think it's because you are so sweet and so..." The backs of her fingers brushed Kami's cheek. It was so light she wasn't sure she met skin. "Soft. It seems appropriate."

Her insides squirmed uncomfortably as another, less appealing thought came to mind. "If you don't like it, just tell me and that's the last of it." It pained her to consider that Kami did not care for something, that it made her uncomfortable, no matter how innocent it may have been.

"Oh, no." Kami's immediate response was so breathy that it stirred Naea's hair and her dark eyes went wide in a perfect picture of horror. The very idea that she could object or that she would do something to upset her precious friend Linnaea seemed unthinkable. Worse than unthinkable, it seemed very, very wrong.

She slid her hand into Naea's and tangled their fingers together firmly. Then she cuddled back in, affectionate as a kitten. "I was just curious," she continued. "I don't mind. I like nicknames. Jack calls me 'baby doll' all the time, you know." She giggled and idly rubbed circles into the back of Naea's hand with her thumb, watching her from beneath dark eyelashes. "And Shae pretty much calls all us girls 'ma cher' so... I like 'Peach' and I don't mind. It sounds... juicy."
