Coffee, Tea, or...?
Who: Ren ([info]the_calm_before ) and Pia ([info]sinnertakesall )
What: TBD.
Where: Brew Ha Ha Coffee
When: Friday, February 4, 2011, mid-afternoon.
Warnings: Corruption of innocents, and possibly language.

Pia decided she needed some downtime, away from home, work and generally any place she might see someone she knew.

Unfortunately, she decided this on a Friday.

The coffee shop she picked on a whim was a little more than crowded; co-eds and high schoolers packing in almost every available seat. Pia maintained her seat mostly out of stubbornness and spite, nursing a mocha and picking at an oatmeal cookie while she tried to read her book. Normally noise didn't put her out, but put out she was, and so put out she couldn't even muster a decently bad mood about it. Instead she skimmed the same paragraph several times over as she idly listened to a few conversations at once, when the hairs on the back of her neck prickled. Pia peeked over her book to see a bespectacled young man seated in the corner, occasionally stealing glances at her as he worked on a notebook. It took a few moments, but she realized he was sketching something, or more likely, someone. As attractive as the potted palm she sat next to was, she suspected that the subject of the drawing was more than likely herself. A small smile eased onto Pia's face as she pretended to read, considering her options.

Ren had given up trying to work on his Web comic. He had gone down to a local coffee shop, couldn't mistake that for a gay bar, he had started to frequent on the weekends. He took both his sketch books with him, because now he had two. He tried not to think about how he got if his first one back.

He shook his head and shifted a little in his seat as if the thought made him uncomfortable. He raised his eyes and looked around at the people visiting the shop. He eyed a girl with dark wavy hair and equally dark eyes and his hand started to move over the open sketch book with his pencil in hand.

With his free hand he reached over and picked up the eco-friendly cup of dark roast with a dash of cream, and sipped on it as he leaned back in his chair, drawing the book that the young woman held in front of her face. He was completely unaware that he had been caught.

After a moment's consideration, Pia set the book down and stood up, slipping her purse over her shoulder but leaving her book and comestibles, her way of marking her territory. She made a circuitous route, past the coffee bar and would have grabbed some napkins if his gaze followed her, but he didn't. So instead she walked over behind the artist, watching him draw for a moment. As she peered over his shoulder, her smile spread minutely wider. Pia had been photographed before, but no one had taken the time to draw her. (At least that she knew of.) It was a new species of compliment, and it pleased her.

She leaned further forward, so that if the artist turned his head, they'd be face to face.

"Boo."

Ren was working on her eye, darkening the liner around her eyes that seemed engrossed in the outline of the book the girl was reading in the drawing. He really hadn't been able to tell what book she was reading, but that didn't really matter. He probably wouldn't end up doing much detail to the book. He was focusing on the outline of her body and the shape of her features too closely to worry about too many fine details that weren't actually apart of her actual form.

He had moved his eye down from the girl sitting a little away from him and diverted all of his attention to the drawing in front of him. That kept him from possibly foreseeing her sneaky attack before she could actually catch him off guard. As it was he was horribly unguarded.

Suddenly there was a voice close to his ear that startled him from his drawing. His whole body seized up and jumped in his seat as his hand carelessly ran a dark graphite scar across the picture of the girl really her novel. He turned and came face to face with the person he had been drawing and swallowed. He said the first thing that came to mind.

"Uh, uh, I'm sorry."

"What for?" she waggled her eyebrows ambiguously before moving around so she could almost lean on Ren's table, continuing to examine his notebook. "Huh, looks like your marked up your sketch."

Ren blinked at her and shook his head slowly. What was with people around here? "Well if you hadn't of been sneaking up behind me then there wouldn't be a mark on it."

He sighed and closed his sketch book and eyed her suspiciously and tried calm back his frazzled nerves by drinking some of his gunpowder tea. Probably should have gotten something herbal if he wanted to calm down. "C-can I help you?"

"Someone's cranky," Pia seated herself across from him, resisting the urge to open the sketchbook, to rile him up more if anything else. She would have affected a hurt expression if she knew there'd be any sincerity to it. Instead, she gave a disaffected shrug, "I just saw you sketching me, and came over to have a look. No one's drawn me before."

Did Ren sound angry with her or cranky? He didn't think he did. His tone was actually kind of even in his own ears. Perhaps he was raising his voice over the din in the coffee shop. He looked around and realized that was probably the reason.

"Sorry." He kind of had a look of a reprimanded puppy.

"No one? Maybe someone has you just didn't know it." He smiled at her trying to changed her opinion of him. He adjusted his glasses to get a better look at her.
