Who: Moana & Simon
What: A consultation
Where: P1
When: Monday afternoon, around 3pm
Warnings: None at the moment

Shortly before three that afternoon, Simon made his way to the penthouse floor of the building, a notebook under one arm and a pencil tucked behind one ear. Moana's commission was quite the prospect for him, a little daunting, more than a little challenging, and he looked forward to working with her on it.

Seeing a person in their element, the colours that made up their life, the things they held dear... it was all necessary in creating something that would both fit their world and please them at the same time. Simon thought like he had been doing this for years, when really, this entire experience was new to him as well. He had only started painting after he left North Carolina, and while the bit of success he had had in selling and showing was promising, Simon still wondered if he had any talent in the slightest. The world of an artist was a tremulous one, but so long as it paid the bills, he'd keep trying to be better than he was the day before.

Looking at the door to penthouse one, his lips pressed in a line, head tilted to the side slightly before he raised his hand to knock, and once that was done, he stepped back, considering his own thoughts as he waited for Moana to answer.

Moana had made sure to prepare some refreshments before Simon came by, though nothing fancy... just espresso and biscotti, appropriate for the time of day. It sat ready on her coffee table at three o'clock, where the champagne she brought out for clients usually rested. She'd made an effort to dress casually, for once, in skinny-legged jeans and a sleeveless tunic-style turquoise shirt. Of course, the fact that she'd put so much thought into it belied the casualness of the outfit itself, but Simon would never know that.

All her public rooms were cleaned, as she wasn't sure if Simon would take his impressions from just the main room, or if he'd like a tour - to get more of an idea of her personality, though he wouldn't from the rooms that she was willing to let others see. She had considered bringing out Blanche, but not in time to have asked him how he felt about snakes before he arrived. If things seemed to be going well, she could always inquire during the consultation.

When she heard the knock on the door, Moana smiled and tucked her hair carefully behind her ears before going to open it. She stepped out of the way quickly, once she had. "Come in! And please, have a seat."

Simon gave her a polite smile once the door was opened to him, a nod of his head as he stepped over the threshold to her penthouse. His immediate impression was somewhat... shocking. There was so much white, so many neutral pieces, no real sense of personality anywhere in the room. It was pretty, yes, but entirely generic, and for a moment, he wondered if she was into interior design and was simply showing him to one of her display units.

"Thank you," he said quietly, glancing around for a moment before moving towards the couch to have a seat, his notebook sat on the coffee table in front of him before he clasped his hands together and waited for her to join him. He felt somewhat rude with his initial thoughts that a blank canvas would be quite suited to her decor, for he didn't think he could bring himself to paint anything quite as...

Well.

Dull, as her living areas seemed to be. But he would never say as much to her, of course.

Moana sat down next to him, then picked up her cup and gestured for him to do the same. "Help yourself. It's not champagne, of course, but I know for me, at least, caffeine is never a bad thing." As late as she stayed up at night, it was actually a requirement... the only reason she'd learned how to work the machine.

She couldn't quite interpret the expression on his face as he looked around. No one had ever actually commented on the lack of personality in her home; most of those who visited preferred the lack of visible personality, and that they could see whatever they wanted to on the canvas of the room. She would give him a moment before she started talking business, however, to let him get comfortable.

When she spoke, his attention came back to her and he nodded his head in thanks. "I try not to drink when I'm... working, so to speak. It turns out I'm a rather talkative drunk." A look of amusement came over his face for a brief moment before he reached for the cup of coffee, bringing it to his lips for a long sip. "It's good. Thank you," Simon said, putting the cup down after a moment and lacing long fingers back together, his attention coming back to her.

"So." Moana turned to face him, crossing her legs and resting her hands on her knee. "What can I do to help you? This is my main room, but if you'd like to see a few of the others I can show you around."

Of course, she wasn't going to show him everything. It had been a long time since Moana was willing to let anyone into her private space, especially a man. She loved her job, but there were some things she needed to keep just to herself.

Getting right to business put him at ease, and he tucked his smile away, his expression growing somber and his eyes serious. "Well, I was hoping to get a feel for your living space," Simon started, looking about as he spoke.

"But I'm having a hard time believing that this is where you live. You did say you wanted something created especially for you, correct? Because it seems to me like a blank canvas would better suit this place than anything I could possibly create."

Moana was taken aback for a moment. How dare...

Of course, she was still just greedy enough that the thought of having something made for her won over the fact that he dared criticize. She took a breath and looked around. "I... see." Of course, she did have a ready-made reason for why her home was so impersonal. "I run my business from here, I'm afraid I designed more for the comfort of my clients than to showcase my own personality, so far as most of my rooms go." She forced an apologetic smile. "I forget how it comes across, most of the time. I'm used to it."

Simon nodded in understanding, seeing where she was coming from and understanding her reasoning. But that still didn't explain how she expected him to create something for her, not her clients.

"So, are you wishing for something to display in here? That your... clients would find pleasing?" Simon asked, glancing about the white walls once more, gaze lingering here and there before he drew back to her, meeting her eyes. "I have several pieces that could easily fit this room. If it's a piece for in here you want, then you don't need to pay extra for a custom piece."

Moana frowned for a moment. She didn't want something for her clients, she wanted something for herself. At the same time, she did want something to display for them to see. It was certainly a dilemma.

Or, perhaps not. "I spent less on decorating than I'd put aside for it." Moana tapped her fingers against her knee, considering. It wasn't like she had much else to spend the extra money on. "Why not both?" That way, she could have something to show to clients, and possibly get Simon a few more commissions, and then something to hoard away in her bedroom with the rest of her favorite possessions.

Of course, he'd probably want to actually see the room where that painting would go. If she could just find a way around that...

He kept meeting people here that were just far too generous, something that Simon really wasn't accustomed to. It was, in a way, overwhelming. But he could see in her eyes that this was something that she desired, and part of him wondered what made her feel that way, but it wasn't his place to question that. "I can certainly work with you on that. So certainly something special and custom for yourself, but do you want to pay the extra for that in here as well?"

He had canvasses that would go well in here, and he certainly didn't want to seem greedy about getting the work, though it was true that he did need it.

"I'll trust your judgment on that." Moana didn't begrudge the money, not at all. "If you think you would have the time, two custom pieces is within my budget..." She gestured to the room at large. "As you can see, I really haven't invested that much in my decorations. But if you'd prefer to save time, I can look through what you already have completed at some point, and see if there's anything I like for in here." That seemed fair enough to her, at least.

Simon gave a nod to that, finding it fair enough to him as well. "Well, we'll leave that decision to later. For now, I'm much more interested in finding out what you might like for yourself." He lifted his cup of coffee, taking a long sip of it, and the look in his eyes might have been almost flirtatious when he looked across the table at her. His lips quirked into a small smile, something rarely seen except in private company.

Moana smiled back, a very playful smile. "I suppose that means you need to find out more about me, hm?" She could play that game, and win, but she'd take it easy on Simon. Really, she was just relieved that he'd relaxed enough around her to flirt back.

Wanting to encourage the behavior, she shifted to face him more, brushing her hair behind her ear in a practiced gesture meant to draw attention to her features. "And how can I help you with that? I'll tell you anything you'd like to know." Though, she hoped he didn't question the nature of her business too much... but she could likely excuse that as being a question more suited to a selection for these outer rooms.

Dark brown eyes widened for a moment, and as she turned towards him, Simon found himself not completely knowledgeable about how to proceed with this. But he let out a breath, forced himself to relax, and returned her smile with one of his own.

That brush of her hair behind her ear made his eyes wander for a brief moment, flickering over the features of her face before returning to her eyes, matching her gaze for as long as he could manage. "I thought perhaps you could start with showing me where you live, instead of where you entertain your visitors."

Of course, it came to that... hoping to fluster him enough that he couldn't press her too hard to show him everything, Moana placed a hand on his knee to help push herself up. "Of course! Why don't we start with the office?"

She finished draining her cup of coffee, leaning over to place it back on the table. "If you're ready, of course."

He looked to where her hand touched his knee, chin lifting for a moment before he gathered his emotions to him once more. A deep breath, the last of his coffee finished off, and he was rising back to his feet as well.

"Why wouldn't I be ready?" he asked, head tilted slightly to the side as he looked to her, a bit of a challenge in those dark eyes.

Moana simply smiled at him some more, then turned and walked toward the door that led to her office, on the same side of the apartment that housed the dining room and kitchen. She glanced at him over her shoulder, to make sure he was following. "The office isn't the fanciest room, of course, but it's a good place to start." It was a good balance between the public and private rooms, she felt, and hopefully enough to make him feel as though she was going to give in willingly.

She opened the door, and gestured for him to enter first.

He was a quiet shadow lingering at her heels as she led the way to the areas of the penthouse that he was quite sure not many people ventured to. The colours here were almost a relief to see, so different from the stark white of the living room they had taken coffee in.

Shortly after stepping into the office, he separated from her, taking a closer look at all the room had to offer, filing away the colours he saw, the general atmosphere of the room. "And where is it that you want the painting to be hung?" Simon asked a moment later, gaze sliding over towards her. "It would be horrible to clash, wouldn't it?"

"Not in here." Moana paused, not wanting him to see where the painting would actually hang, at all. "Why don't I show you the rest? Here, this way..." She drifted back out of the room, and through the pristine white dining room, excusing it as 'another room for business,' and then on into the kitchen.

This room had walls that were actually painted, at least, though nothing like her bedroom. "I eat in here, most of the time. The dining room is much too formal for just me, all by myself..." She formed her lips into a small moue, expressing her opinion of doing most things alone, actually.

Of course, the kitchen was the most personal room that she had ever let anyone in, really. She could perhaps use Blanche as an excuse to not show her bedroom...

From one room to the next, Simon trailed along behind her, taking in their surroundings as they shifted from that clinical, impersonal white to something closer to what he believed to fit the woman at hand. "Is it just me, or do you live two lives, Moana?" Simon asked, his question perhaps a bit on the blunt side, but honest in the same breath. He broke away from her side and moved to look around the room a bit closer, touching the wall, the counter, little grazes here and there to get a better feel for it all.

"But I suppose I could do a painting for your... kitchen, if that is truly what you like, though I still think that there is something quite vital that I am missing in the larger picture here." Simon gave her a knowing smile, a glance to the side that said he knew there was something that was hidden here, though he would not pry too deeply.

Oh, Moana's desire for privacy was waging a great war against her desire to have something special all for herself. She bit her full lower lip, both because she was torn and because she hoped it might distract Simon long enough for her to think a little. "Don't we all live two lives, really? I'm sure you have your... private places, your dirty little secrets that you don't want seen in the light of day." And every bit of that, of course, was innuendo.

Not that Moana was ashamed of her private life, not at all. It was just... she shared so much of herself, didn't she deserve to have things that were hers and hers alone? Most certainly, she did, and if only Simon hadn't offered her something like that, she wouldn't be considering bringing him in to see the rest of it.

But if he was to paint something that would be hers, the logical part of Moana's brain argued, he might need to see it. And she did so want that. "Would you even want to know my secret places?"

There was a low chuckle as she spoke, picking up on that innuendo. Quiet and introverted as he could be, he was not completely unfamiliar with the fine art of flirting. The bite of her teeth into that lower lip distracted him for a moment, and he watched her quietly, eyes sweeping back up as she continued to talk. "My secrets are pressed and bleached white," Simon replied with another quiet laugh, glancing off to the side to the portions of the penthouse unknown, saying nothing for a moment.

He looked back towards her, taking in her words, and with a tilt of his head to one side, he flashed her a smile. "If I didn't want to see them, would I have asked?"

Ah, he was so cute. Moana couldn't help but smile back at him, and she was left with only one last line of defense. "Well, I suppose that I'll show you my secret places, as long as you promise to let me into yours, sometime. Though..." She fluttered her eyelashes at him. "I hope you aren't afraid of snakes."

A brow arched at that, and he tried to keep a straight face, hoping that she was talking about the secret places of her apartment, not... other secret places. Rubbing a hand over his face, he let out a breath, looking back to her a moment later. "I'm afraid I don't really have many secr-"

A pause, a heartbeat of silence.

"Snakes?"

The smile curving her lips turned a bit devilish. "Yes, snakes. You aren't, are you?" Moana crossed to the door of her bedroom, pausing with her hand on the knob. "If you are, you should really let me know now."
