Rick had heard Ron mention him - not just this present time, but actually the first time as well, just before Nina asked about the sci-fi books, and a little prior that too. He heard them talking, which had the effect of taking his own anger down to a state of shame. His brother always acted like a gentleman, even now when treating a total stranger. Rick didn't want to think about how he acted to Nina in contrast.
He stood out of sight behind the wall dividing the kitchen from the living space, and with a small sigh, he opened and loudly shut the fridge door again.
"Hey, got it alright. The pack was just buried under some stuff in the freezer." Rick turned the corner and greeted both of them with a prize-winning smile, and strode over to where Nina sat. He passed her the ice pack, clearly hesitant to risk going near her ankle himself. "Here you go. What did my brother tell you? Are you going to survive?"
