Re: A short while later, Apartment 1007
Nina nodded mutely, biting her lower lip as he slipped the canvas sneaker off her foot. The act was strangely intimate, reminding her of a hundred such scenes dripping with romantic tension. Then, the back of her mind suddenly came blazing alive with the concern that her feet might smell after being in shoes all day. They weren't even nice shoes, just ones she bought for comfort. Squinching her face against the pain, she watched him peel a teal striped sock off her foot with one, squinted eyes. Nina wondered if she should apologize prophylactically or wait until the doctor commented on it or made a face.
Belatedly, she remembered his instructions. "Uhm, it does hurt. A little. Not like, horribly. But you said if it hurts, uhm, to let you know, so..." her voice drifted off. A second thought came to her. Afraid to contradict any authority, or worse, appear stupid, Nina's voice was small, "I don't think I've broken it... Uhm. I didn't hear the bone break when I fell."
