Shae had been a light sleeper all of his life. His Maman had often lamented this fact, especially around the holidays; the slightest sound would always send him scurrying to the main room to investigate, where he'd inevitably be threatened back into bed with a belt or whatever festive seasonal decorations happened to be at hand. If one of his sisters sneezed in the next room, he was up and at attention. It was an attribute that served him well given his current line of work, but more often than not, it also resulted in many a night of interrupted sleep.
But not today.
No, today was apparently one great, blissful exception. There were no dreams, no voices, no colors. Only darkness, the peaceful black void. It held a certain familiarity, this creative energy that seemed to linger in his consciousness; as though he were one with it all, with the darkness, with the void...with everything that would spring into being from its very depths. In this moment, nothing could disturb his rest.
...goddamnit, what was that noise?
He vaguely felt something slap against his skin, and his brow furrowed in drowsy irritation. Still mostly asleep, and without batting an eye, he brushed off the annoyance with his hand in the same manner one might use to wave away a particularly aggressive salesperson- or maybe a gnat.
"Shut da fuck up," he mumbled under his breath, leaning more heavily into the sudden warmth that had appeared at his side.
