"Indeed," Zio agreed softly. Then he canceled the call and slipped the phone back into its holster on his belt. The elevator was moving rapidly now and he estimated the enforced interaction would end within a couple of minutes. Some part of him felt a loss at the notion but the rest of him sighed in relief. This strange little encounter could be put behind them both and he could settle back into how the world really worked.
Though it was also unnerving how neatly she had pegged his information sources. The little waitress had far more brains than her co-workers. He would have to remember that.
Catching himself staring at her lips, Zio gave his head a little shake and turned to study the panel of buttons once more. The mechanics were distracting, soothing. "I'll see if I can't report this malfunctioning piece of junk to the owners later," he commented. "I'd hate for anyone else to get trapped." He looked back over his shoulder and smiled warmly at her, feeling in control again. "Not everyone can have the luck I had when it comes to company."
