Re: ~8-ish, near the dance floor (Kami, Navid)
"If you're certain," he said, a slight note of concern still threaded through his voice. For all her assertions he made a mental note to keep an eye on her for the remainder of the evening. It would hardly do to have her birthday party, already set back somewhat by the building's late-announced soiree, further brought down, especially if her unwanted suitor's advances were to escalate from mere annoyance to true harassment.
Being overly serious had its occasional advantages. Navid entirely failed to notice her sudden teasing formality - though he'd not have minded if he had - and merely stepped up to the supposed challenge. They made an incongruous addition to the dance floor, surrounded as they were by far less graceful patrons - now largely drunk - who would scarcely have known a foxtrot from a Paso Doble. They moved quite fluidly together, Navid noticed with some satisfaction, and in spite of their somewhat silly attire they cut a charming figure in the midst of the whirling crowd.
"The three of us should go for dinner some time," he offered. "Or four, should you have someone you'd like to bring along. Our treat. I know it would be somewhat belated, but we could consider it a birthday dinner all the same."
