"I know. I totally do." Kami waited until Linnaea had managed another couple of sips and then she adjusted her seat and wrapped an arm around the other woman. "There has to be a way to contact the management," she continued in low, firm tones. "Just like there has to be something you can do about it. There are so many apartments in this building. It's practically empty!" She moved her hand again to rub slow, reassuring circles against Linnaea's back. "Maybe they'd let you transfer your lease to a smaller one or cut you a deal. I don't know. I've heard of all kinds of weird things."

Kami watched Linnaea's face as she took another sip and offered a small smile. "And think about how we all ended up here," she added, growing more cheerful by the moment. "Lots of coincidences. It's a business, though. If management can't take less for where you are but there are other apartments sitting empty... Well, why not put you somewhere cheaper and save some of the money they would be losing otherwise?"
