His smile was as faint as his frown had been, reflected though it was in his downcast black eyes. "Not all my time," he said, one slim shoulder lifting in a shrug. "I'm a paramedic, so normally coming to the rescue is my day job. I don't do much of it in my off hours." If pressed, he would not have been able to say why this particular instance had spurred him to action; it might have been the depths of her apparent discomfort, or perhaps simple boredom on his part. The end result, though, was the same, and he wasn't sure the why of it truly mattered now.
