Dorcas took the camera from the other, tougher woman. She'd take being called a pussy because, well, she was. Dorcas was not brave, had never been brave. If she had been, perhaps her life would have turned out differently. She had been about to answer Charlie when the man, Jack, put his arm around her shoulders. Her cheeks turned a very bright red color and it looked like she just wanted to shrink and disappear.
When she finally tried to speak again, it came out as a horrible stuttering of the letter D. For a moment, she simply clutched her camera and swallowed hard. Breathe. Breathe. Okay. "D-Dorcas. Dorcas Carrigan. I j-just moved in too. And... And I don't know if, if I can figure it out. B-but if someone gets hurt a-at least we'll have evidence for a l-lawsuit."
Clearing her throat, she added, "S-so I'm going floor to floor. Just s-started."
