Alex had stumbled away from the growing shadow, her feet sliding on the watery, slick floor created by melting snow. And then, just like flicking a light switch, Matt (in all his nude glory) stood before her. She muttered something darkly in a clipped language, rushing forward to wrap her arms around his shoulders.

"Thank goodness," she said, English pouring from her mouth. She pulled back, hands settling on his shoulders. Fingers clung to his skin, subtly massaging, as though to convince herself of his solid form. There was no embarrassment, no shame. Others were already in the hallway, scattered about; paramedics and an ambulance's flashing lights filled the rest of the space.

"I'm going to get you a blanket," she said, making eye contact with him, waiting for him to acknowledge and sign off on the idea.
