Still, that just stuck in Rafael's mind, hard and sharp as a fishbone caught in his throat. His blush faintly faded. The jangling of his nerves quieted a bit. But every word was true; if this was all he could have of Gabriel, it was better than the void he had had before. He knew [Freyja] would have agreed. So he nodded, and smiled, and shifted slightly closer to his friend.
"Mmhm. I know. It was never the same after you." He chuckled, and the sound seemed sadder than anything else. He sniffed, and rubbed idly at his nose. "You know, years ago I found this little Cuban place I wanted to take you. I wonder if it's even still open. You'd love the coffee there. Keep you up all night. They have good fried plantains, too. We should go some time."
