"Oh, no, I mean, I need to know this sort of thing, right? Just... to fill in the gaps." She immediately felt guilty that she might be making Alice feel uncomfortable, but before she could open her mouth to apologize, she spotted Obed across the pool. Speak of the devil and he shall appear, it seemed, though Isobel felt that tight, strange mix of fear and familiarity in her stomach. Armed with new information and a better way of gauging if he was telling the truth, Isobel tore her gaze away from him -- slightly breaking the spell he seemed to have over her, even at a distance -- to look back at Alice.
"Actually, I'll be right back, OK? I... I think I'm gonna get some more punch." Such an explanation might have carried more weight had she taken either her cup or her plate with her, but Isobel left both behind. She at least smiled at Alice, before rising and walking off toward the food table, trying to gauge where Obed was going to end up landing.
