Rafael shrugged. That question was impossible, utterly without any answers that would be truthful or satisfying. He bought himself time with a lungful of smoke and a careful repositioning of himself on the lounge chair. After refilling his cup from the flask he moved the cloth bag to the ground, within easy reach of his hand, neatly placing it so that it remained folded closed.
"I'm good," he said, rubbing at his nose with the pad of his thumb. "I'm fine. I'm taking it a little easy with work, catching up on television and sleep instead. Alice's couch is more comfortable than most. For the most part I've been sleeping like the dead." When I do manage to sleep, he did not add. "So, you know. I haven't been out as much." He chuckled, sipping from his freshly replenished drink. "I'm sure you've been busy with your book, too, though. That's probably why you haven't seen me. I hope all that is going well."
