Laura followed the sound of small steps upstairs one flight, then two. Small giggles were cut off by the sound of a door slamming, and Laura stepped out onto the landing of what looked like a tropical forest. No, wait; just a garden, something that almost looked somewhat planned and tamed. She could see the beginnings of a hut at the other end of the hall. Thick branches and leaves obscured her line of sight, preventing her from determining where Anaise might have gone, if she was even still on this floor. But where else could she be?
She paused, waiting a moment. A hand rose, rubbing at her face; she felt even more tired than the initial two months after Anaise's birth. Then it had been nearly impossible to get the kid to sleep; now it was impossible to get her to hold still. At least she'd seen her? It seemed small recompense in return for all this waiting. Anaise seemed whole and unharmed, in good spirits, clearly unafraid of whatever was going on in the building.
Laura was on the landing long enough for Jay to follow, though she was slightly surprised to see the woman appear.
"Pretty sure she's here somewhere," she offered by way of explanation, motioning to the foliage in front of them. "Maybe the hut? If you can take one wall, and I'll walk up the other, if she tries to dart by us again, one of us should be able to grab her. I swear, she's not usually this rambunctious..." It seemed a stupid observation, but she made it regardless, trying to stick to as much normalcy as possible.
