Who: Aura & Simon
What: A meeting under the moon
Where: Near the hospital
When: Monday night, after this log
Warnings: Violence

If he had been in his right mind, he might have felt remorse, perhaps even guilt over his behaviour that night, but as it was, the anger lingered, heavy and dark, holding tight to him in the night air. Simon continued down the walk, eyes narrowed, hyper aware of everything the world was doing around him. The wisps of conversations from passersby, the smells of food drifting from open windows, the exhaust leaking from the cars. Every sound, smell, sight flooded him into agitation, and it was all he could not to simply knock anyone away that got in his path.

City streets faded into a darkened park, trees providing shadows to cloak that which lurked, and in that darkness, he could feel some of his agitation fade. Once again, he threw himself at a bench, sat hunched over, hair hanging like a curtain around his face, obscuring him from the world but completely unable to obscure the world from him.

Pierce had taken Aura home, and she'd gone into her apartment and paced for a half hour before deciding what to do next.

She'd gone to Billy's first, stopped outside his door and considered asking him for help with Simon, but she'd seen how Simon was and she didn't want Billy hurt. If Simon did something to her, she could handle it. If he hurt Billy, it would be different. She even considered Merc, but her cousin had enough to deal with, with his mirror reflection. So, in the end, she left Pax and walked in the direction Simon had gone. She was his twin, after all, maybe she'd find him on that fact alone.

When she saw the shape on the bench, she knew, and she took a deep breath, trying to unsuccessfully reign in the anger that was building inside her.

"Well?" she asked, hands on her hips. "Are you done having your melodramatic Captain Kirk moment?"

He felt her approaching before she stopped, before she spoke, and he lifted his head to stare at her in her approach. "Did I ask you to follow me?" he snapped out, looking back away, his lips pressed in a tight line. "Go away, Aura. I don't want you here right now."

He stood to make an exit, already deciding to leave even if she took her leave as well. He just wanted to be alone. Nothing else.

She didn't leave. In fact, she just closed the distance between them and reached for his arm. "It doesn't work that way, Simon," she told him softly. "You can't get rid of me, and you can't run away." Stubbornly. "I won't let you."

The moment her hand touched his, he growled, sweeping his other arm out in her direction with every intent to strike her. "Don't you fucking listen? I don't want you here! I don't want to talk to you! I don't want to fucking see you!" Simon all but snarled the words out, stepping sharply up towards her to close the small distance between them.

"Leave. Me. Alone."

"You aren't going to bully me around, Casper," she said, not even wincing or shying back when he swept his arm out to hit her. She didn't think he'd do it, and so she wasn't afraid he would. She wasn't afraid of his stalking toward her either, for the very same reason. She looked at him straight on, and she let him hiss out the words.

"No," she replied stubbornly, because in Aura's world you didn't leave someone alone when they were hurting the way he was.

"Is that what you really think?" He snapped the words at her, whiplike and sharp, and he made another advance towards her, both hands reaching out to shove at those narrow shoulders. "Do you really think you know me that well that you can tell what I can and can't do?" There was a laugh, and he shoved at her again.

"You need to go away. Go cry to Billy, or Pierce, or whomever else you're all sweet with, and leave me the fuck alone. This family thing? Not working out for me, so fuck off before I make you leave."

She staggered when he shoved her, but it was out of sheer size difference, not fear. If it had been physically possible for her to hold her ground, she would have. Still, she refused to be shoved away, and she shoved him back instead. "Family isn't like that, Simon. There is no opt out." Aura's view of family was entirely defined by her large, Spanish one. "I'm not leaving, and this has nothing to do with Billy or Pierce." She shoved again, this time angrily.

"You sure about that?" Simon retaliated, giving her another shove back, pushing forward to make up for every step he loses to her. "Our father opted out, Olivia. Maybe I'm just like him. Walking out on you just like he did. Like father like fucking son." Another shove, a growl deep in the back of his throat.

She registered that the shoves were getting harder, more violent, and she was stumbling before managing to recover from his bruising hands, but that didn't change a thing for Aura. He was her brother, family, and you didn't walk away from family. She'd lived a life where she was loved, protected and cherished, despite being entirely different than anyone in the huge clan that was her world. It didn't occur to her to run or shy away, to use her ability against him, and so she didn't. She shoved again, and she screamed louder, as if it would make a difference. "You aren't LIKE that."

"Or maybe you're just too fucking oblivious to realise that I am!" There was another shove, the hardest yet, and he stepped in close and tight to ensure she either backed up or fell. Even though his family had never done anything to ostracize him, even after the truth of his adoption had been revealed, Simon still felt like an outsider, that truth just driving a wedge into everything. And it hurt, even here, even though he had her, knew her, knew his sister, he still refused to embrace it.

So he pushed and shoved at her, then finally lashed out with a left hook, putting all of his weight behind it.

The left hook did what all the bruising pushing had not. The force and weight of the punch both shocked and unbalanced her, and the look in her eyes as she fell was one of pained surprise. She tried to catch herself, to reach for him for balance, but there was too much strength in the punch. When she hit the concrete it was with a sicking crack as her head connected with pavement and everything went black.

Everything was quiet for a moment, entirely still, and then an ominous trickle of dark, red blood started running toward his foot in the darkness.

His hand stung, sharp and pulsing, and he stared as she fell back, almost in slow motion, the image of her reaching for him burnt into his mind's eye. And then there was that crack, and his breath caught in his chest, and for a moment, all he could do was stare.

The world swung back, heavy and hard, and he stepped forward, feeling the moistness beneath his shoe, and he stared at it, stooping to touch fingers to it, then back up to stare at her still form. "Olivia?" he asked, voice hoarse, a bit panicked.

"Olivia?" Simon moved towards her then, feeling suddenly ice cold in the night air as he touched her face, pushed hair back from her forehead, whispering her name again. "This isn't funny, Olivia. This..." Lips pursed tightly and his breathing quickened. "Olivia, wake. Up."

She didn't wake up, and she wouldn't be waking up any time soon. The force of the impact had done enough damage that waking up wasn't a given, and she hung limp and lifeless in his arms, breathing shallow and thready.

While it was true that Pierce had only met Olivia a couple of weeks ago, he felt like he knew her well - and he knew that the Gregory stubborn streak was prevalent within her; being brought up in the family she was raised with only added to that, leading to Pierce essentially fearing the worst for the rest of Olivia's life.

Therefore, he knew that she had gone after Casper once she was dropped off. He had a feeling, a premonition of sorts, and those who knew Pierce knew that his premonitions were hardly wrong.

He came back inside the tower after having a cigarette out on the balcony, reaching for his Blackberry and calling Olivia's cell phone, listening to the ring on the other end. She better pick up...

He was trying to figure out what to do, how to help her, when the ring of her cell phone jarred him back into reality. For a moment, his eyes widened, panicked, that urge to simply run almost overwhelming, but he steeled himself and fumbled for her phone in her pockets. Hands shaking, face pale, he pressed to answer the phone, bringing it to his ear.

"H-hello?"

This was not Olivia.

This was the boy who wanted to be left alone and oh, that would happen - he'd be left alone burning in hell.

"Casper," Pierce spoke calmly. "It's Pierce. Where is Olivia?" He would give the kid two seconds to put her on the line, or he was tracking them down, guns blazing.

His only answer for the longest time was the sound of him breathing, hard, short little breaths that were hardly satisfying. "I... She..." Another pause, a strained sound escaping him as he tried to keep himself together.

And then there was quiet as breath was held, the sounds of the fall in the background. "I'm sorry..."

Pierce had already grabbed his car keys and was out the door. Casper had one thing right - he was sorry, and he would be even sorrier. That was for damn sure.

"Tell me where you are, please," he said, his voice continuing to stay calm and rational. He was noble, and his wrath was invoked slowly. And received painfully. Obviously they were outdoors, but that could be anywhere. He'd start by driving back toward the hospital, if Casper wouldn't be of any help. "And wherever you are, stay there. I'm on my way."

The logical part of him was grateful for the calm tone since it helped him keep his own calm. He had shifted slightly to sit on the cement, Olivia cradled in his arms, keeping her warm, keeping her safe. "Near... the hospital," he said after a moment of quiet. "The park. I... we'll stay here. We... won't go anywhere. But you need to... hurry."

A pause, just a heartbeat of silence.

"Please. Hurry."

"Does she need an ambulance, Casper?" Pierce asked, on the road and still talking. He didn't know what happened, but Pierce didn't want to move her if it would make her injuries worse. At least they were near the hospital; that was a bonus. It was quite the sense of deja vu. Hadn't they just been there? "Call one for her - " And then kiss your life goodbye. "And then I will meet you at the hospital."

Again, there was silence, then a shaking, verbal acknowledgment at Pierce's words. "I. I'll see you back there," he said before disconnecting and immediately dialing 911. A short exchange, quiet, panicked words, and he waited on the phone with the dispatcher, Olivia still cradled in his lap.

That was how the paramedics found them, and he watched, feeling hazed, watching as they loaded her up and then him as well to ride with them. After she had been seen to, Simon was left in the waiting area, sitting silently, back pressed against the chair, staring off into nothing as he waited.

Pierce probably broke a few sound barriers speeding to the hospital but he didn't care. The car was barely turned off before he sprinted out of it and into the emergency room, looking around for Simon. He took note of the distressed-looking young man sitting in the same chairs Pierce had been in before, and his eyes narrowed for a fraction of a second.

But he wanted to see how Olivia was doing (or rather, what the hell had happened), so he stopped to talk with Simon briefly instead of heading up to the desk to demand things and be unpleasant.

"What happened? Have they said anything to you yet, about how she is?"

He hunched further forward as Pierce came closer, leaning in with his hands holding his head, unable to look towards Pierce. "She... hit her head," he said quietly. His hands were still stained with her blood, the front of his shirt rusted as well. "She..."

A pause, a breath, and he squeezed his fingers tightly. "She hasn't woken up yet. They... It's bad."

Hit her head on the concrete? After being slammed to the ground, most likely. He wanted to grab Simon by the throat and squeeze until the hyoid bone snapped, and he would choke to death on his own saliva. This is exactly why Pierce had Nate send that demon baby across the country - because he was nothing but trouble, and it was apparent now. He had tried to listen to Olivia's point of view as she defended her brother, calling him sweet and fragile, oh, he was so harmless! That was all a steaming pile of horseshit.

But Pierce just nodded, running his hands over his face. Revenge would come in due time. Hasn't woken up yet registered with him, and he took a deep breath, face going slightly pale. "I'm going back to see her," he decided and then turned to walk off.

If anyone tried to stop him, it would not end well for that unfortunate soul. This hospital did not want to be the main focus of the 'negligent healthcare' centerfold in the paper, or the subject of a scathing report on the 6:00 news, so Pierce didn't have to push and shove his way back to Olivia. He walked there like he owned this hospital.

It was a new sense of deja vu as he pulled the chair up beside her bed. First it was Billy (who still wasn't completely healed) and now his niece was in a coma. When would this nightmare end?

"Olivia, my majestic unicorn," he said, leaning over to tenderly brush his lips across her forehead. "You have to wake up."

Of course she didn't respond, but he scooted close to take her hand, not planning to let go anytime soon.

The sound of Pierce's footsteps against the tile floors echoed in his head, and he lifted his own head to look off after him. Slowly, as though afraid to trail after him, Simon rose and followed after him, keeping his distance and hanging in the doorway of Olivia's room, arms folded over his chest.

"I'm sorry," Simon said quietly, almost afraid to interrupt the scene with as tenderly as Pierce saw to her. It was the kind of treatment she deserved... not a brother that punched his sister and made her crack her head on the cement. He closed his eyes, slipping further into the room but staying against the wall, pressing himself as flat as he could against it. "She'll... she'll be okay. Won't she?"

The answer to that question was: She better be okay. But that was probably not the answer Simon wanted to hear, so he went with another response instead.

"She will be," Pierce said firmly, because even though Olivia was in a coma she could still hear them - and the last thing he wanted to do was pronounce her dead before it was her time to go. She had to want to fight to wake up, and she would. "Right, Sunshine?" He gently squeezed her hand. "You'll be okay."

Simon let out a ragged breath, watching Pierce as he saw to Olivia, the way he squeezed her hand, the tender way he saw to her. The sense of guilt was almost overwhelming, knowing that this was his fault, and if he had been able to keep his temper under control, then she would be fine right now.

"I'm... just going to leave. I..." He paused, wiping a hand over his face as he half-slid down the wall. "I can't be around her. She needs better than some fuck up like me. I'll move. Go back home. Something..."

Well, that was clearly true. Like father, like son - running away from their problems was obviously a theme here. Pierce wouldn't confirm or deny anything, however. He remained calm, taking in Simon's words. "And you think that's best, Casper?" he asked, without turning to look at him, his icy blues continuing to focus on the girl lying still as stone in the hospital bed.

"What the hell do you think I should do?" Simon snapped out, head whipping up to glare at Pierce, the tension that had been absent only moments ago back in full force. "Stick around and pretend nothing has happened? Stick around and have to face her if she wakes up?" Simon was yelling by this time, his voice echoing off the hard floors and walls, reverberating in the small room.

"I did this to her, Pierce! I fucking did this to her!" Yeah, those were screams now, a closed hand hitting hard against the wall, rattling the noteboard that hung nearby. "How the hell can I stick around when I do this to the only blood relative I know I have? What the hell does this say about me?!?"

Pierce stood up and whirled around, fists clenched by his sides. His eyes blazed angrily. "Casper." He said the name, tone dripping with impatience and irritation. He was a volcano on the verge of eruption. "Shut the fuck up. You have two options right now: Keep going with this temper tantrum and end up sedated and chained to a hospital bed, or leave. I recommend the second option. You're not thinking clearly." And he wasn't helping the situation either - no way in hell would Pierce ever consider letting David meet this kid. They'd both end up dead.

A low growl came from deep in his throat, and whatever measure of temper that had receded was roaring once more and he stalked forward towards Pierce. "Don't you fucking call me that," he hissed at him, his own hands clutched into fists at his side. "You have no fucking right to use that name. And if you call me that again, I swear to god I will make you pay." He was almost nose to nose with the other man, his gaze dark.

"And you can't tell me to leave. I'm her family. Not. You. So how about you bug the fuck off and leave us both alone. Hmm?"

"You'll make me pay, Simon?" Pierce asked, patronizing the kid, his smile cold and calculating. "Very well. Dually noted." Oh, and it was noted alright. Filed away for later use, when Casper would regret what he had just said - he would regret his own existence, in fact.

The screaming and banging around had caused quite a commotion, bringing in hospital personnel - and as soon as they entered the room, hearing the last part of Simon's threat, Pierce scowled and stepped away from him. "You'll have to take him away. He's disturbing the patients and making threats." That was why hospitals had male interns who looked like bodyguards! Adios, Simon.
