Who: Pierce & Simon, and now guest-starring Aura
What: Awkward family times with blood and broken mirrors
Where: Lobby then off to the hospital?
When: Monday afternoon
Warnings: Injured wolfboy?
Notes: None to speak of

The day had started out with a headache that wouldn't go away, and while climbing back into bed to sleep the day away had been oh-so-tempting, the foul taste in his mouth demanded the use of a toothbrush and toothpaste. It was there, going about his normal morning routine, that everything just kind of went to hell. That first glance in the mirror, only to see a monstrous wolf staring back at him... well he was pretty sure he shrieked like a little girl before instinct took over and he threw his fist at the mirror, shattering it instantly and sending shards of glass all over the bathroom floor. Standing there, blood dripping down his hand, toothbrush hanging out of his mouth, Simon was pretty sure he had gone absolutely insane. Either that, or that tequila had done interesting things to him.

Sure enough, a peek into another mirror showed the same thing, but he was smart enough not to throw his fist through it this time. So with his hand wrapped in a bath towel, he had intended on trying to get ahold of Aura or maybe even Moana and asking for some help in patching up when Aura's post caught his eye. And then there was the conversation with Pierce...

And that brought him to now. Standing in the lobby, a new towel wound around his hand, standing slightly slumped against the wall, head still pounding. He had had enough sense not to take aspirin in order to soothe that headache, but that didn't make him any more hospitable to the world.

This was quite possibly the worst day in the history of forever. All Pierce wanted to do was take his morning shower but the second he stepped into the bathroom and saw some strange one-eyed man wearing a cloak and a wide-brimmed hat looking back at him, he actually yelled. It had been awhile since something scared him so badly that he screamed obscenities, but this had certainly done it. What was that?

The fact that those in his family - extended or otherwise - seemed to be experiencing the same thing was unnerving. Of course Casper had punched the mirror. Of course. Now he was leaving a blood trail in the hallways, most likely. Sure, Pierce had sent him away because of a bad premonition but he never wanted the kid hurt or dead.

Swallowing the gigantic lump in his throat, he grabbed his car keys and headed downstairs to the lobby. Casper was recognizable, the lone figure slumped against the wall. The lone figure who resembled David, the way David looked when he was the boy's age...

"Casper?" Pierce stopped in front of him, frowning as he took in the sight of the towel around his hand and the -

He had to fight to hold back a shudder. The creepy-crawly feeling traveled up and down his spine, but he pushed it aside and took the boy's arm, guiding him away quickly. "I'm Pierce. It's nice to meet you in person. Or I suppose you prefer Simon," he said.

Simon looked up at the sound of first footsteps and then the other's voice, steadying a glance upon him for a long moment before nodding his assent at the question. He hardly got a chance to say anything more before Pierce was taking hold of his arm and guiding him out of the lobby.

"Ah, either's fine. I'm just..." He paused, looking back towards Pierce, brow creasing for a moment, a strange feeling touching him. There was no reason that he could think of to have such a strange feeling, so he pushed it away and concentrated on keeping pace with the older man. "Not used to people calling me Casper. Aura's the only one who calls me that, so it's a little strange." A pause, a small twitch of his lips. "You and her are friendly together. Friendly enough that she told you all about me?"

There it was. That underlying note of suspicion, of anger skimming beneath the surface. Part of it was towards Aura, at her laying out their relationship so openly, going so far as to reveal his real name. It wasn't that he was ashamed, nothing of the sort, but it was not the sort of thing he wanted to wave around like a banner.

"We're friends," Pierce replied with a nod as they exited the building. His car was parked in the garage, on the first floor, so it wasn't very far. Thank goodness. "She said nothing but good things about you. Don't be too hard on her. Nice girl, that Olivia."

He opened the passenger door for Simon and then went around to the driver's side, briefly assessing the state of the boy's hand as he climbed in. Speeding seemed like a good option. Simon was looking a little pale. How long had he sat around with a bleeding hand? And what if there was glass stuck in there?

"Buckle up, son," he added. "Click it or ticket."

"I'm not hard on her," Simon muttered, though the thoughts going through his head were not the nicest at the moment. What was wrong with wanting to keep their relationship between them, at least for the moment? He was still getting used to the idea, still trying to come to terms with everything that knowing his twin sister meant, and here she was, telling complete and utter strangers all about it.

Simon was quiet as he slid into the passenger seat, shifting awkwardly to pull the seat belt over his shoulder before settling into the seat. He briefly licked his lips, looking over towards Pierce. "How did you meet her? Aura, that is?" There was that refusal to call her Olivia, a name he preferred to keep between her and him. As he waited for a response, Simon leaned back, head resting against the headrest, eyes falling shut.

"We both happened to be visiting others in the nearby cemetery," Pierce replied, chuckling a little. "Not the cheeriest of circumstances but it was bound to happen eventually, since we live in the same building and Billy's my son."

He couldn't believe he was in a car, a confined space, with the baby who gave off demon vibes when he was only three days old. It didn't help that he had grown into the spitting image of David. How David was not going to notice that Casper was his son was sort of boggling to Pierce, but then again, stranger things have happened. David wasn't the most observant anyway.

Out of instinct, he checked the rearview mirror before backing up - it was just one second - but it was enough to catch a glimpse of the face that didn't belong to him. It was a face which had noble qualities, exuded wisdom - but it wasn't his. Not to mention the lack of eye aspect really bothered him.

"Shit!" he hissed, jumping like he had been electrocuted. Then he glanced to the side, right into the sideview mirror.

That's when he saw it.

A gigantic, furry beast. A long snout and evil, dark eyes. It was sitting in the passenger seat, there was a wolf in his car...

"Jesus fucking Christ!" Pierce exclaimed. "What is that??? Do you see it? Fuck...are you kidding me?! There's no way...that's a fucking wolf!"

That gave Simon reason to blink, dark eyes opening, looking over towards Pierce with an arched brow. Billy was his son? And he was living... here. It seemed strange that Billy hadn't said anything about it, but that wasn't really the sort of thing most people brought up in normal conversation, so really, it shouldn't have been that surprising that he hadn't heard about that.

He was about to comment on that as Pierce backed up, lips already parted to ask a question, when the man hissed, eyes widening slightly. For a moment, there was concern, worry, and it all bled away the moment that shout was heard. The cry of wolf.

His jaw was set, his head aching, his hand throbbing, but really, he didn't give a flying fuck at that moment. Hand pulled at the door handle and he pushed the door open roughly, grateful that the car wasn't moving, though really, that wouldn't have stopped him. It was bad enough that all he saw when he looked in the mirror was exactly what Pierce saw without the other man seeing it too.

At that point, Simon really didn't care where he was going, but it needed to be away. The towel had started to soak through, and he could barely see with the throbbing in his head, but hell if he was sticking around to hear some old man screech about seeing the wolf that was haunting on him.

"For fuck's sake, Casper...Simon!" Pierce called after the bloodied Olympic track star who just took off from his car. If it had been moving and the kid jumped out, Pierce would have seriously feared for his sanity. "You're bleeding all over the place, get back in the fucking car!"

He was quick and spry for his age, not to mention Simon was about to pass out, so Pierce ran around and yanked the boy back into the car. "It's fine...we're fine! It's calm. Everything's calm." With a huff, he slammed the car door - and put the child locks on, thanks - then peeled out of the parking lot with Simon back in the passenger seat. If he had let the kid run off and Olivia showed up at the hospital, not knowing where Casper was, that would have upset her greatly. And Pierce did not want to upset Olivia.

"I put the child locks on, so don't try anything funny like rolling out at a red light," he grumbled, speeding down the street and cutting off a few irritated drivers. Hey hey!

When Pierce grabbed him to pull him back to the car, Simon actually growled, going so far as to bare his teeth at the other man before he was thrown bodily into the car. Had he been more himself, he probably would have given more of a fight, but as it was, when the door slammed shut and Pierce drove off, tires squealing, Simon did little but hunkered into one corner of the passenger seat, arm clutched to his chest.

"Mindreader, are we?" he snapped out, unamused by being treated like this. "If I really wanted to get out, I'd crawl over the seat and do it. Don't treat me like a child." Simon's voice was throaty, lacking completely in those quieter, softer tones he was normally known for.

"Then don't act like one," Pierce snapped in response, his mind going at a million miles an hour. This was David's kid, David's kid, David's kid - which made him Pierce's nephew and he was not going to leave him on the side of the road. Or worse, in Disneyland. "You would not crawl out because I am going to assume you have some sense of self-preservation and you'd be turned into roadkill once you hit the asphalt," he added.

It was time for Operation: Avoid Every Mirror for the Rest of His Life. "And yes, I'm a mindreader. It's my lot in life, like how you're an artist."

Simon didn't say anything to that, instead settling into his little corner of the backseat, arm cradled to his chest. No, he wouldn't crawl out, he wasn't that desperate or stupid, but it was tempting if only to get away and find some quiet little place to hide away.

He tilted his head towards the window, forehead pressed against the glass as he let out a breath. He had to roll his eyes at Pierce's answer, letting out a huff of breath. "Mmhmm. Was there anything Aura didn't tell you about me? Seems like she's keen on laying it all out for everyone to see anymore."

As long as Simon wasn't growling anymore (who does that? Oh right, a wolf), then Pierce could deal with the huffy angst currently being thrown at him. "It's your occupation, isn't it? And I like art. My walls are pretty bare and she seemed to think highly of your talents. That's okay, right?" he asked, following signs for the hospital emergency room. "And she actually didn't tell me how old you were when you lost your virginity, but hopefully she wouldn't know that. See, tons of things she didn't tell me."

He pulled into a parking space and turned the car off, going around to get Simon. "Now just think of a plausible story for how you banged up your fist," Pierce advised. Obviously, telling the doctor that he punched a mirror because he saw a wolf in the reflection wouldn't do.

He stared at the back of Pierce's head as the other man spoke, eyes narrowing slightly in annoyance. "She didn't need to say anything," he said sullenly, turning away with a sigh, watching the form of the hospital come nearer and nearer.

As the car stopped and Pierce got out to open the door, Simon looked up at him, one brow arched as though daring him. "This is why I wanted to take care of this at home," he muttered, easing out of the car, actually being careful not to bump the bloody towel all over everything, no matter how tempting it might have been, just to piss Pierce off. "I'll just say I punched a mirror. Why does there need to be a reason beyond that?"

And with that, Simon walked off without him towards the entrance of the emergency room.

This? This was sweet and fragile Casper, the one Olivia had spoken so fondly of? She seemed to be right about one thing though: Tantrums as a defense mechanism.

"She's proud of you and proud you're her brother. There's nothing wrong with that. And you weren't taking care of this at home," Pierce stated, already caught up to Simon. "You need stitches and you're not sewing them up yourself like the fucking Joker."

Telling the nurse that he punched a mirror? Pierce raised a brow at that. "Alright, go ahead." If the kid wanted to get strange looks and be recommended for anger management classes, that was his choice. But first Pierce went up to the desk to get the paperwork started while Simon was taken back to have his battle wounds treated. The mirror: 1. Simon: 0.

Simon made a face at Pierce's words, jaw set. "Well one of us is still trying to get used to all of this stuff going on, without someone broadcasting it to the world." His words were harsh, a bit pointed, and he cast a look over towards Pierce at the comment about sewing himself up.

"No. I wasn't planning on anything stupid like that. I thought some butterfly strips and some gauze with a little fucking help would be enough. Instead I get dragged to the hospital."

He paused, just inside the door as Pierce went to start the paperwork, and the thought of how he'd fill anything out only knowing his name crossed through his head. "I should leave. You've done your good deed for the day. You can go home too."

Pierce rolled his eyes, filling in what he knew and he'd get the rest later. Even though really he knew it all but that was beside the point. The headache pounding on his skull threatened to split it in two - he also felt like punching something. Must run in the family.

"I'd just end up taking you back here because of a pus-filled infection," he said casually. He'd cut the kid a break because he was tired and scared, but goddamn. Nate should have shipped him off to the North Pole. "I'm not going anywhere, Simon. Just go get stitched up and I'll bring you back home when you don't have glass shards in your fist."

Glares! Hatred! Glaring hatred! Yep, this was David's kid, alright. Pierce didn't really see the sweetness or the other fuzzy attributes Olivia had bestowed on her brother, but it would come in time. Sighing, Pierce plopped down onto the waiting room couch to catch up on Highlights magazine and, appropriately, wait for Olivia. Ironic that he hadn't wanted to take care of David's kids when they were first born and now he was doing just that.

It was different now though. Sure, Simon was a wolf the size of a Buick, but...clearly they all had issues, and Pierce needed a cigarette. He was going to end up fond of those kids and then where would that leave him?

Aura had been at work when things went crazy. Real work - the kind with mice and tourists and high school students celebrating the beginning of a new school year with extended hours. The fact that Simon had punched something hadn't surprised her to read; she was becoming pretty familiar with his temper tantrums at this point and, to be honest, the floor-length mirror behind the bathroom door had freaked her out pretty badly too.

She entered the hospital waiting room with her Haunted Mansion costume and completely silly white servant's hat-thing firmly in place. Her cheery nameplate said she was from Las Vegas, Nevada and proclaimed her name in the most annoying of cheery manners. Aura!

She saw Pierce almost immediately, and she took his Highlights magazine away from him and sat beside him. "This was not the best possible meeting for you two," she said preemptively. "How is he? And how's Billy?"

Forget about the old, one-eyed man with a beard that midgets could get lost in, and forget the humongous wolf that was hanging out in his car. That was all nothing compared to the way Olivia was dressed. The nametag was an especially nice touch. Disney must only know how to use exclamation points when communicating with others!

He did a double take as she sat down, then leaned back in his seat with a sigh. "You're correct, as usual," he chuckled. "It was a fantastic car ride over. But he'll be alright, just needs some stitches probably. Billy's fine too. I saw him this morning." The kid was just tired and thinking he was going insane, as everyone else seemed to be. "How are you?" Pierce asked, quirking an eyebrow as he peered over at the girl.

The second part of her statement was definitely not lost on him. "...what," was all Pierce said quietly, looking up and around just in case anyone was listening. No one seemed to be zoned in on them but he leaned in closer anyway - just in case. "Who the hell was it?!"

Damn Olivia and her expressive eyes. They had probably gotten David out of a few jams in his life as well. Actually, Pierce was sure that the deep brown color qualified under 'awwww, puppy eyes.' His eyes were an icy blue most of the time. "I saw an old man, with one eye...and a long gray beard. It definitely was not me." While Pierce sported a beard on occasion, it definitely wasn't down to his chest. "He looked like one of the guys from ZZ Top."

She had to laugh at that, because really, what else could you do? "Me, I think, at least from the waist up," she said truthfully, because Pierce knew her biggest, worst secret - another small one couldn't hurt. "You saw a wizard?" she asked, because his description brought to mind Merlin and Gandalf and Dumbledore. She looked impressed; she couldn't help it. "Because that's just not fair," she added, smiling at him and then placing a hand on his arm, her fingers soothing-soft, soothing-firm. "It'll be okay, Pierce," she told him, sounding every bit the calm grown up.

After all, after killing people with your pinkie being Merlin wasn't so bad really.

"From the waist down it was a different woman?" That didn't make sense, but since when did anything make sense anymore. Pierce was seeing wizards in the mirror. Maybe Harry Potter, that frizzy-haired girl, and the redheaded kid who looked like an albino monkey would show up next.

He laughed a little too. "I don't know, a wizard could probably fix his own eye, right?" he asked rhetorically, patting Olivia's hand. "Of course it'll be okay. You're not turning into a...a...well, you know, I'll have to research that." He didn't know of any lady characters offhand that were dead from the waist down. But research and figuring things out? That was his forte.

She rested her head against his shoulder, but she didn't look at all upset. Instead, she looked up at him, an almost-laugh brightening her features as she looked at him. "You're almost sage wizard age. I could totally see you as Saruman. We just need to get you a staff of power. And we have to keep you from becoming a villain, but otherwise, you fit the bill."

As she finished talking, a nurse called for Simon's family, and she looked at Pierce again. "I know you aren't really family, but come back with me?"

"I don't even know what a Salami is, my dear," Pierce chuckled, and he gave Olivia a kiss on the forehead. "But I promise I'll work on the staff of power, maybe I can find one lying around somewhere. My collection of swords is quite impressive, however?"

He glanced over at the nurse when she entered the equation, then back at Olivia. "Of course," he nodded, standing up from the couch and, oh, how funny that statement about family was. Eventually, she would know the truth - and it was going to hurt him badly when she decided that she hated him, but he couldn't change the past. No time machines were available for this wizard here.

The nurse led the pair back to the examination room where Simon had been taken, sweeping the curtain aside long enough for the pair to enter and then tucking it back around to offer them some bit of privacy. Simon was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking a bit paler than he had previously, eyes slightly heavy with the painkillers they had offered for head and hand, and the numbing agent on his hand. He looked up as they entered, mouth opening as though he had something to say, but when he saw the pair of them together, he promptly closed his mouth and shuffled back on the bed. Feet stretched out in front of him, he laid back on the inclined bed, arm over his stomach, quiet.

Aura closed the distance between door and bed quickly, and she made herself at home on the crisp, white hospital linens. She was comfortable in a hospital setting, and she scooted up on the bed until her feet were no longer touching the floor. "What did you think you were doing?" she asked Simon, reaching for his hand gently, concerned.

She looked over her shoulder at Pierce, and she gave him a warm smile. "My brother," she said proudly, before looking back at Simon. "The idiot."

Pierce could feel the "GET THE FUCK OUT" vibes radiating off of Simon and even though the kid didn't say anything, boy, those vibes were apparent. He folded his arms across his chest, waiting by the edge of the bed while Olivia got comfortable. Pierce didn't love hospitals, mostly due to recent events involving Billy, but he was used to the strangeness that often occurred within them. Ghosts everywhere, even in the cafeteria.

"It happens sometimes," Pierce said casually, the corners of up his mouth tilting up in a fond smile despite his best attempts to fight off the expression. "I've punched a few inanimate objects in my day too."

He gave a sidelong glance towards Aura, gaze narrowing slightly as she settled on the bed near him, providing no fight as she took his hand in her own. "I thought I was destroying the thing I saw in the mirror. It..." Simon paused, glancing towards Pierce, and then back towards the girl. "It surprised me." Lips were pursed tightly together and he exhaled, closing his eyes as she introduced him as an idiot, resisting the urge to growl and smack that smile off her face.

Simon did well though, keeping his temper about him as he looked back towards Pierce, that small smile he wore, and he had to wonder what the hell was there to smile about right now? But he kept that thought quiet, instead gently pulling his hand away from Aura, settling it back across his chest. "Same. It's not the first time. Also not always inanimate things get it." A pause, a handful of heartbeats filling the space in the conversation. "Who knows. Maybe you're our father. They do say, like father, like son." He was joking... entirely so, the only bit of 'humour' he could interject into the conversation at that point.

Pierce lifted an eyebrow. So Simon was violent and liked punching people? Well, that was probably a family trait as well - but he didn't want to go into that. David was certainly more violent, whereas Pierce preferred to destroy someone emotionally or socially, but of course could kick some fucking ass when required. He just didn't engage in such things unless necessary, though he was always prepared. It was his motto.

And, to be quite honest, if it had been a wolf Pierce had seen instead of a wizard he probably would have punched the mirror too.

"I can safely say I'm not," he chuckled. But uncle was close enough. "Billy's all I have in terms of offspring, but having a daughter would have been interesting. He'd probably object to me putting him in dresses though."

"Best thing I've heard all day," Simon muttered at the news that Pierce was definitely not their father. He had been joking when he said it, after all, but really, that would have been a disaster. He went quiet at that, still brooding, still a bit irritated that he had ended up in this position.

"So. Lemme guess," Simon said a moment later, looking back over towards Pierce with a look that was nothing close to friendliness. "You called her and told her I got hurt? Is that why she's here too?"

Couldn't Pierce even get a thanks? He had saved the kids career as an artist! What if he had sliced a tendon in his hand? Not good.

He raised an eyebrow at the accusation. "She saw what you said on the forums, and asked what hospital I was taking you to. I didn't have to call her. So I'm pretty sure she came of her own free will."

Aura had been quiet long enough. She sat forward, and she smacked Simon upside the head. "Quit it, Simon. She sat back. "He's Billy's father."

If he had been stormy before, he was absolutely furious at the smack upside his head. His lips pressed together in a thin line, his good hand curling into a fist against his lap. For a moment, he was absolutely still, and then he swung his legs over the other side of the bed and slid off, pushing the tray of implements that had been left behind noisily out of the way. "You fucking quit it, Aura," he snapped, storming towards the curtain and pushing it aside.

"I'm fucking out of here. You two can sit there and talk and be happy with one another. I'm not in the mood to play at this kind of bullshit." If one looked close enough, they could almost see his hackles raising, every muscle in his body tense. He hesitated at the curtain, then pushed through, storming off.

Goddamnit motherfucking cocksneeze! What was with this kid? Pierce shook his head, stepping back so Simon could get on by - he didn't try to stop him. How the boy planned to get home was not his concern right now. If he wanted to walk out, then Pierce would let him.

He exhaled in annoyance, looking over at Olivia. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for him to get so angry." That was probably inevitable though.

She sighed. "He's been like that lately, since his brother died. I don't know how to make it better for him," she said, and she climbed off the hospital bed. She made her way out of the room, and she walked down the row of ER beds, expecting Pierce to follow. She stopped at one, the bed of a very small girl, one who was alone and whose death rattle could be heard from the walkway. She leaned over her hospital bed, and she kissed the little girl's forehead, and the rattle stopped.

She came back to Pierce a moment later, and she tugged on his sleeve. "Let's go find my brother," she said, even as the little girl's machinery began beeping.

He hadn't know where he was going, or even where he should go, just that he needed to get away. Eventually he went through a pair of double doors, not the ones they had come in, and out into the evening air. There was a slight breeze, crisp and invigorating if that had been what he was looking for. Instead, it just felt suffocating, a certain tightness across his chest that would not ease. Simon lingered for only a few moments before stalking away, throwing himself at a nearby bench and hunching over, good hand pressed against his face, the other over his knee.

He took in a deep breath and let it out, shaky and jittering, his hand clutching in his hair. He was filled with this sense of morning, this feeling of sadness that he could not let go of. Ever since the funeral, since coming back, he hadn't been able to keep his emotions under control. They surged and waned like a stormy sea, pulling him along for a ride he wanted nothing to do with. The heel of his hand screwed against his eye and he let out a guttural roar, catching the attention of those who walked near even though he was oblivious to it.

"He just needs to come around on his own time, most likely. Sometimes we try and try and there's just nothing we can do besides make sure they know we're there," Pierce said with another sigh, following Olivia toward her destination. He stood by as she tended to the girl, tilting his head and watching her use her gift - and he knew that's what it was. It had been the little girl's time, that was something that only Olivia could know. But then he saw the girl's ghost, a floating hologram, rise up and swing her legs over the side of the bed, now clinging to the teddy bear she loved so dearly. She waved and then, a moment later, was gone.

"Yes, we should. He needs a ride home. I might nominate you for that," Pierce chuckled as he took Olivia's arm. "I doubt he wants to be in the same car with me."

Aura made a soft, unimpressed sound. "He's going to deal with it," she said, but her voice turned worried a moment later as they stepped out into the crisp, cool night. "He needs help, Pierce," she said with a knowing shake of her head. "He has so much hurt and anger built up over his brother, and our parents." She cocked her head to the side curiously. "Do you think finding them would help? Maybe if he punched our father in the face it would help," she suggested.

She would have continued, but she saw Simon in the distance, bent over a nearby bench, and she pulled on Pierce's sleeve. Then Simon roared, and she stopped dead and looked over at Pierce before dragging him forward again.

She stopped at the end of the bench, but she didn't say anything.

He felt them approaching more than anything, his senses hyper aware of everything going on around them. As such, he flinched when they stopped at the end of the bench, eyes bright as he stared at them. "Go. Away," he snarled, going so far as to bare his teeth at them before he was up and stalking away again. He didn't know what he wanted, but them looking at him like that was not it in the slightest.

There was another growl, a throaty roar soon after. What was wrong with him? Why did everything feel like it was simply spinning out of control?? He missed his brother, missed life when it was simpler, when it didn't have so many things to worry about. But most of all, he missed his brother.

Simon let out another roar, face raised towards the heavens, and tears rolled down his cheeks. All that hurt, all that anger... it was nearly tangible in that roar, that howl to the moon.

Count to ten. Take a breath. In with the good air, out with the bad. More deep breaths. Ah, the joys of parenting - or quasi parenting, in this case. Why was David such a deadbeat?! Why, oh, why was this happening now...

He didn't bother to tell Olivia that, no, finding the father would just make things worse right now. Eventually, it would be possible - but Simon was much too angry and he needed to be mature enough to handle that meeting. Getting sent to jail for lashing out at David and fucking him up wouldn't help matters. All of this was conveyed with a shake of his head. Pierce wasn't going to bring up David right now, in any capacity.

And now the kid was growling. He was roaring - this wasn't normal. A shiver went down Pierce's spine, he couldn't help it, and he was tempted to just leave Simon here. But no. He was hurting and he was family, even if nobody knew it but him.

"Simon." He pressed his fingers into his eyes. "Please just let us take you home. Then we'll leave you alone."

She didn't move away when he growled or roared, because he was her brother, dammit. She put her hands on her hips, and she looked over her shoulder at Pierce and then back at her brother. "Simon, you can howl at the moon all night if you want. We're not going away, and we're not going to leave you here alone." She paused, let that settle between then. "You're not alone," she reiterated, reaching for his sleeve, much as she'd done with Pierce inside. "Come on, Casper."

His head whipped around so that he could stare at them, breathing hard, and their words might as well have fallen on deaf ears for all that he was comprehending. But when Aura reached for his sleeve, when she touched him, he growled again, lashing out with his injured hand with every intent to harm.

No, Olivia, no. What was she doing? Quickly, Pierce stepped in and grabbed the girl, yanking her away from Simon. He pulled Olivia behind him, looking at the boy - shocked about what he had intended to do.

"That's enough," Pierce snapped. He knew that Simon was upset and hurting but that was no excuse for this behavior. People went through shitty circumstances but they had to be smart enough to ask for help and deal with the problem.

He turned to Olivia. "We're going. Right now." Simon wanted them to leave, so they would leave. Pierce grabbed Olivia's hand, turning to walk off with her.

Aura had never in her life considered using her ability to defend herself, and this instance with Simon wasn't any different. She let Pierce grab her away, but she kept her gaze fixed on her brother. "This isn't you," she said emphatically. "Yes, someone you loved died. It happens every day, Simon. It happens to everyone. It's part of living, and hurting everyone around you isn't going to bring him back. So STOP IT." Her voice was loud and sure, and (admittedly) she felt safer with Pierce there, dragging her away from her own stupidity.

He was breathing hard, shaking from head to toe as he watched Pierce drag Aura off. His arm dropped to his side, loose and limp, listening to Aura's words though he wasn't really sure he was really hearing anything that was said. There was no chasing after them, no reaching for them, no words at all. Instead he turned away, started to walk off in the opposite direction. He wanted them to leave, and he'd do the same.
