Engrossed in conversation, Adam had looked up too late from his companions to those he'd left behind. His brow furrowed at the scene currently unfolding, his entirely sober mind putting the pieces together easily enough. He said his goodbyes as quickly and politely as could be managed, then took on the daunting task of racing through the writhing crowd to get back to his friend's side. The moment he reached them his hand slipped around Alex's slim forearm, his black eyes moving to their unwanted guests. He had no words for them, barbed or otherwise; his only concern lay with Alex, and with the sudden uncharacteristic behaviors she was displaying. "Are you alright?" he said, leaning down to whisper in her ear. "I can get security here if you need."
