Did this count as officially dating? It was an official date, at least in Yang’s mind though maybe not as fancy as Weiss deserved she still hoped it could be fun.
Weiss needed fun, as far as she was concerned. And Yang was determined to win her all the prizes, even if most of the games would probably cheat.
She was also pretty sure Weiss had never had cotton candy in her life, so that was stop #1.
Somehow, as awesome as that fancy resort had been, having Weiss on her arm at this fair was even more awesome. Maybe because Weiss looked really cute.
Oh god, she had it bad. Yang slid her arm around Weiss’s shoulders and leaned her cheek on her head and pointed at one of the strongman games, “See any prizes you like?”
The only thing that Weiss could control about today was her outfit, and she'd opted for something practical that still looked stylish. A nice pair of jeans but sensible shoes to go with them, a nice t-shirt that was obviously high fashion's attempt to be casual, and a light jacket.
Her hair was up in a ponytail to keep it out of the way of the rides, and it tickled against Yang's hand as she glanced at the available prizes. Up in the corner was a 2 foot high stuffed swan with a sparkling crown on its head and an impossibly fluffy tutu around its waist. Weiss pointed at it. "I want that one."
It was wearing ballet shoes. How apropos was that?
Cotton candy was the most divine thing she’d ever had in her mouth that was a food group and not anything of Yang’s and she pulled another fluffy cloud of it out of her bag as she squinted at the game. “Do you think you can beat this?”
God, Weiss looked good. Yang bit her lip and tried not to think about how badly she just wanted to pull her somewhere and kiss her. Was that okay? Were they at 'kiss anytime' relationship levels?
Yang hazarded it and leaned in to kiss Weiss's cheek, "You got it, babe."
Reluctantly, she let go of her and approached the game, "So, I just got to knock the pins over with the baseball, right?"
The man nodded, "Yep. Then you get one of the little prizes."
"Hmm. Let me guess, I gotta keep winning to get the big swan." She glanced at Weiss and winked as she flexed her left arm.
Then she slapped down a dollar. Wanting to prove a point, mostly to herself, she threw the first ball as a leftie, and won the basic prize.
Waving her hand, she said, "Let's go for the upgrade."
The sexiest thing about this little game Yang was playing, at least as far as Weiss was concerned, was the fact that she knew Yang was holding back. Putting aside the obvious fact that Yang had, previous to her injury, been right-handed, and the fact that she wasn't even using her brand new shiny prosthetic?
Yang could have put holes in the back of that stall. Weiss knew it, but kept her expression mostly neutral as she eyed some of the lower tier prizes. Just in case, though she knew it wouldn't be an issue.
To pull the guy's leg further, she let out a mock sigh. "I guess I could go for this unicorn wrist-bracelet... thing... if you're not feeling up to it."
Tapping her lip, Yang stared at the targets, bouncing the balls in her hand before throwing them with almost precision force. Once again, she won the prize, and then slapped down some more money, “This is for the swan for the lovely lady.”
Then, she made a face, “Oh, oh no I have a problem!” Glancing at Weiss she smiled, “I can’t possibly do this without a reward of my own.”
Weiss squinted at Yang. "And what kind of prize would that be?"
In all the fairy tales, the victorious warrior usually claimed a kiss. Weiss's cheeks started to turn pink as she thought about that. She'd never really kissed Yang in such a public place before. It made her stomach feel like it had burst into a thousand fluttering snowflakes. "I suppose a kiss is a customary prize for victorious warriors. Is that what you’re looking for?”
Yang turned an Actual Shade of Red, but she nodded without letting her smile falter despite her nervousness. “Yeah, I think that’s some good motivation, baby.”
“Would you just get on with it?” the man said with all the energy of a very tired person.
Yang laughed, and flicked her wrist.
Prize (and kiss) secured, she deposited the former into Weiss’s arms, then took her hand. She liked the exciting rides, but she was also feeling really romantic and that ferris wheel was super tempting.
Super tempting or super unstable? Weiss eyed it dubiously and clutched onto her stuffed prize tightly as Yang guided them towards the Ferris Wheel. "Now I know I like feeling tall, but are you SURE we should get on that thing? It looks like the last time it was in perfect working condition was the seventies."
She was still flushed from their very public kiss, one that had gotten them a leering look and then a sneer from the man operating the booth. But that was alright, because Weiss was already tired of hiding herself from the bigots of the world. Her family included. But as brave as she'd felt smooching Yang in front of God and everyone, she still wasn't sure she was brave enough to give this ride a try.
“Scared, princess?” Yang winked at her then pulled her on board. There was nothing to really strap them down and it was open air, but that just added to the excitement -- and the romance, in Yang’s book. The wheel moved slowly, stopping to give people at the top several minutes at a time to enjoy the view, and Yang had observed it would go around a few times before letting people off.
First chance she got she pulled Weiss in against her, almost into her lap, and kissed the left side of her neck, murmuring softly, “I’ve got you and I won’t let you fall.”
Rides like this always did look like death traps from the outside, especially the ones that had zero safety precautions. The little booth they were in was quite private, though, and the view of the city was exquisite.
That wasn’t really the point of getting on a Ferris Wheel though, as Weiss suddenly became aware as Yang pulled her in close.
OH.
She let out a tiny snort, “So this is why all the kids get on these rides.”
Weiss didn’t feel like the seat was balanced enough for her to actually crawl onto Yang’s lap, but she did make herself more comfortable. Her collection of prizes were safely tucked away at their feet, so there were really no other thoughts to distract her from how close Yang was, or how good she smelled, or how soft her hair was. It made her equal parts warm all on the inside and a disaster of manic butterfly energy. “I could… be convinced to stay on here a few times around.”
"That might be really nice, huh?" Yang lifted a hand up to Weiss's hair, inhaling the scent of her and marveling that she was so lucky to have a woman like this into her.
Contrary to popular belief, Weiss was a kind and warm person, just a bit prickly on the outside, and Yang was glad to see that other side of her.
Up here, kind of at the top of the world (or at least this part of the world), she kissed Weiss, then murmured, "When we get somewhere private, I'm going to treat you like a lady until you can't walk anymore."
Then she kissed her again and whispered, "Babe I love y-"
The wheel suddenly jerked to a stop.
“You- WHAT?” Weiss replied, suddenly stiffening in her seat. But it wasn’t due to anything that had nearly stumbled out of Yang’s mouth, and had everything to do with the fact that the ride had just suddenly come to a stop.
She knew it. It was a bad idea. Amusement parks were reportedly some of the most cursed places on the entire planet, and now they were never going to leave this place alive. The arm that Weiss had wrapped around Yang started a death squeeze, but Weiss was trying not to panic overly much.
After all, she’d usually been one to keep a ‘cool’ head in a crisis. Yang would have been proud of her if she’d said that out loud. “... it STOPPED?!?”
Her tone was decidedly less cool than she’d hoped.
"Huh." Yang peered over the edge, her arm pulling Weiss protectively closer, sort of like how a knight might guard her princess. Honestly, she really liked how Weiss was clinging to her and felt butterflies in her stomach over it.
"You do realize we've fallen from higher, right?" She turned her head to look at her girlfriend and raised her eyebrows, "I'm sure we'll be okay. Besides, it's kind of nice up here, with you and me and all."
Without realising that she was doing it, Weiss started inching closer and closer, nearly physically getting up onto Yang’s lap. It was such a slow movement that the carriage barely swung around, which was why even Weiss was surprised when she realised she was breathing down Yang’s neck.
“But in those places you had gun arms and I had glyphs to break our fall with. I didn’t even bring Myrtenaster with me and… unless you’re hiding your gauntlets here somewhere…”
It was possible. They often did look just like bracelets instead. And it was also possible to make her glyphs without any dust or sword assistance, but Weiss had no idea if she could manage it under pressure just yet.
If she didn’t think about the impending doom, though, it was kind of nice. Perhaps even the sort of thing someone would have written a story about. “I wonder how long we’ll be stuck up here…”
Oh, this was nice. Yang felt a little nervous ... which was funny considering she had not only seen Weiss naked but had done a whole lot more besides look at her.
But there was something strangely intimate and romantic about this moment that threatened to make her tongue tied. She could be smooth. Honest.
It was just really hard with her petite girlfriend clinging to her okay. All that smoothness was melting over the edge.
"Yeah uh well." Yang cleared her throat, "I didn't think heavy artillery was good for a romantic date yanno? So you've probably got a point but we're pretty safe up here, promise."
Yang nuzzled Weiss's cheek with her own, "I know a way we can pass the time."
“I think this IS usually the part of a story where the young couple starts making out,” Weiss replied, sounding far more smooth than she felt. She was blushing so very hard that her cheeks were burning up against Yang’s skin.
Yang grinned, lifting her right hand and stroking Weiss’s cheek as she leaned in for a kiss. Gentle and sweet at first, her hand sliding down towards one of Weiss’s breasts, but before she could really go at it the way she liked, the ferris wheel groaned and jerked violently before starting to move again.
It was just around the time that Weiss was getting warmed up enough to try something adventurous, maybe even a little tongue. So when the ride started to groan, she let out an annoyed little groan as well. Breaking away from Yang just slightly, she growled. “RUDE.”
Of course they could have just continued, and she certainly wasn’t going to move Yang’s hand away. But if they were in the thick of things when the wheel came to a stop they’d cause one heck of a scandal. And then all of their fun would be over very abruptly. “I can’t believe I’m sitting here wishing we’d been stuck a little longer.”
Yang would be happy for the scandal, but she knew it would bother Weiss a lot, so she didn't want that.
She grinned at Weiss again, smile bright and eyes glimmering with some very strong emotions, "We could find a nice quiet place somewhere romantic and pick up where we left off... or we could get back to someplace with a bed if you're feeling too scandalized."
Leaning in, Yang nipped at Weiss's jaw, only pulling away when they were about to be visible to the attendant.
Someplace with a bed felt a little too tame for the day they were already having. Weiss was feeling brave enough to sneak in a little nip of Yang’s ear before scooping up all of her prizes and casually stepping out of the carriage. Despite Yang’s attempt to keep things on the down low, the looks between the two girls and the blush on Weiss’s cheeks were impossible to ignore.
The attendant gave them a little wink on their way out and nodded in the direction of an empty tent.
Weiss glanced over at Yang and then back in the direction the attendant was nodding in. It was a darker area of the carnival, stacked with bales of hay and supplies. Possibly it was the carnival equivalent of a broom closet.
Really? Yang looked at Weiss with genuine surprise, then chewed on her lip before sliding a hand up Weiss’s back and guiding her towards the darker area. She’d never had a roll in the hay before.
Granted, Weiss was her first and only, but still. She was suddenly super nervous and super giddy and super duper gay. “I love you so much,” She whispered, visions of u-hauls dancing in her head.
